CH2M HILL Project Controls Specialist - Calgary, Canada
The challenge? Help save and protect the one and only Earth we have. Our Project Controls Specialist position provides you with an opportunity to work on a variety of environmental projects. Each day you will be responsible to perform the more complex aspects of project control activities, ensuring that all project control activities such as project administration, change management, project estimating, cost management and schedule management are executed in a timely fashion and in accordance with all company standards and contractual requirements. You should be a self motivated professional with at least 12 years of experience in project controls, have a B.Sc. degree in Construction Management, Business or Finance, have had experience performing project controls for a construction contractor, can calculate variance analysis of project cost and schedule performance, can read and interpret design drawings and develop projected final quantities, and have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each Project Controls job.
Our Project Controls Specialists:
- Manage large multi-discipline teams to deliver at risk contracts for both consulting and construction portfolios for Federal and Industrial clients.
- Develop the scope, schedule, budget and estimates to complete data for assigned tasks.
- Lead in the creation of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and development of schedules and budget data (including resource loading) for those WBS elements.
- Analyze unit rates to the extent the estimate to complete unit rates are well understood and defendable to peer review.
- Assemble and compile schedules and cost data and inputs into the project control database and provide output to the project team.
- Analyze schedules progress and performance and identifies developing problem areas.
- Participate in claims analysis and negotiation.
- Maintain all subsidiary reports such as personnel staffing and release schedules, equipment schedules, etc to facilitate good cost projections (EAC).
- Assist in managing and maximizing project margins.
- Advise management of risks that may affect project profit, costs, schedules and client relations.
- Support the Project Management team in maintaining timely and effective change management processes, procedures and systems.
- Take the lead in the development and maintenance of any periodic (daily, weekly, monthly) status reports to keep management and/or owner informed on the project progress. These reports may include labor productivity, schedule status, financial analysis, Cost Performance Reports (CPR) and earned value curves reports on either direct or indirect construction activities that are a part of the work.
- Prepare CH2M HILL standard earned value-based reports, including schedule updates, Cost Performance Reports (CPR) and earned value curves.
- Participate in the development of the Project Completion Report including the evaluation of all subcontractors and major vendors
- Incorporate field schedules in the Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB).
- Implement trend and change management programs.
- May provide PP&C support to multiple business groups.
- Provide mentoring and career development counseling and QAQC for junior level project controls staff.
- On field assignments, assist with quantity tracking, retrieving project data from subcontractors.
Position will require travel to our client site in Whitehorse, Yukon on a regular basis.
Basic Qualifications
· Bachelors Degree in Construction Management or closely related degree; in lieu of degree, an additional 4 years experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree. A minimum of 12 years experience in Project Controls.
· Hands-on experience with Primavera Project Planner (P3) and P3e/c/P5/P6.
· Experience setting up construction schedules working as a contractor or direct interface with subcontractors.
· Hands-on experience with resource loading & earned value management systems.
· Project Controls experience on engineering and construction projects.
· Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of principles and concepts of cost engineering as they relate to budgeting, monitoring and tracking actual costs, change orders and forecasting.
· Experience with Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project Software.
