We are recruiting for two positions that are located in Yellowknife and report to the Chief Inspector of Mines.
Mining Engineer/ Inspector

We are looking for a Mining Engineer/Inspector who will be responsible for administering the NWT and Nunavut Mine Health and Safety Act and Regulations and the Explosives Use Act and Regulations. You will be visiting the various mines in the NWT and Nunavut to perform inspections, safety audits, and reviews of technical designs and drawings to ensure compliance with the appropriate acts, regulations, codes and standards, and conformance to engineering standards. You will also be researching new technology, equipment and applications in the mining industry and preparing technical reports on various mining issues.
To be considered for this position, you must meet the legislative requirements under section 19.02 of the Mine Safety Regulations, which are registration as a Professional Engineer under the Consolidation of Engineering, Geological and Geophysical Professions Act of the NWT, and seven years of practical mining experience, of which at least five years has been spent in production operations, and at least one year of supervisory experience at a mine. Other requirements include excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to use tact and diplomacy to influence others and resolve conflict, and the ability to interpret acts and regulations. Salary ranges from $42.07 to $47.72 per hour (approximately $82,036 to $93,054 per annum), plus a Northern Allowance of $2,500 per annum.
