Participate in the mining re-development of a mineral rich country
Our client, a large company established in the Arabian Peninsula, is looking for its Director, Project Engineering. The company is operating several open pit and underground mines, and boasts many projects in base metals, Gold and other commodities. They use several processing techniques, from leaching to flotation.
The country in which it operates has a long mining history and major development programs are now in place to bring explorations and operations high on the agenda.
Role
The Director Project Engineering will direct the deliverables, which are engineering from conceptual through to detail design, delivery, design calculations, specifications, procedures, quality assurance, analyses, bid evaluations and technical reports. He/she will manage the control, coordination and supervision services as well as assistance for the assigned project inclusive of budget formulation, cost control and quality assurance. He/she will also manage the support services for supervising and directing engineering, procurement and management of construction contractors appointed. He/she will also be active in the start-up and initial operations assistance.
Key responsibilities
Controls the resource requirements through the project and create Variation Orders & Engineering Change Requests as required.
Schedules and delivers project on time to milestones and within budgeted hours and gives technical presentation and instruction, primary technical interface.
Controls technical change identifying and obtaining Variation Orders thereby protecting or improving margin.
Provides input to field project risk assessments, HAZOP etc.
Manages and coordinates multidiscipline engineering activities to ensure projects such as FEED (front end engineering design) studies and preparation or ITB (invitation to bid) check estimate preparation or LSTK (lump sum turnkey) tender package preparation are executed in a safe, efficient, cost effective and timely manner.
Acts as primary technical coordination interface to ensure that the client's expectations are satisfied and ensures the project conforms to the client's approved Basis of Design and all applicable regulatory and code requirements.
Manages the assigned budgets within total scope and stays within the compliance with Project Management Plan and requirements of the contract.
Time Management
Monitors cost aspects of the project within direct control to forecast final costs, identifies trends and takes action to avoid cost overruns.
Sets clear objectives to the design team, including achieving productivity and budget targets and ensures design team aware of, and complies with, applicable regulations and codes
Qualifications
The successful applicant will hold a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent and will have at least 15 years of experience in the mining industry, including at least 5 years in a senior engineering role.
Strong reporting skills, as well as in depth knowledge of engineering and procurement systems, associated with good planning skills and risk management are highly desirable.
