Summary
Exercises responsibility for planning and technical support for the site safety operations in the field. Ensures that the Safety Department provides the requisite assistance in support of the Corporate Safety Objectives.
Essential Functions
Plans and provides technical support for safety functions on Operations, Maintenance and construction projects.
Provides assistance and input for the weekly safety meetings and the daily toolbox meetings.
Performs accident and incident investigations, prepares reports documenting causative factors and takes photographs as required.
Ensures notification of the accidents/incidents to the appropriate agencies.
Monitors safety equipment.
Selects appropriate personal protective equipment and enforces its usage.
Trains personnel in proper safe working practices.
Inspects jobs to ensure compliance with all company and client safety policies/procedures.
Stops work in imminent danger and recommends appropriate action.
Routinely performs safety and productivity observations; shop, field, and vehicle inspections; and is required to attend various components of technical, developmental and safety training.
Must demonstrate support for the company's environmental management system
Qualifications
Occupational Health Safety Technician (OHST) or Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) certification preferred or obtainable within one (1) year.
Safety experience in applicable industry, in or around hydrocarbon facilities, with arctic environment experience preferred.
Working knowledge of the OSHA maintenance or construction standards as well as other federal, state and local laws and regulations preferred.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
MOBILITY: Employee frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. Must be able to access all process areas of a petrochemical facility, including climbing scaffolding and ladders. Depending upon assignment, work may involve hard physical labor.
HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms and warnings.
VISUAL ACUITY: Vision must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner and be able to correctly interpret control panel alarms.
LIFTING: The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must display ability to read and understand job descriptions, safety/technical manuals and safety/warning signs. Must display sufficient oral communication skills to be able to give and receive oral safety warnings, instructions and task assignments.
ENVIRONMENTAL: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to severe arctic weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, confined spaces, and the risk of electrical shock. May be required to work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
