Job Specification

Primary Purpose of Position

The Power Systems Design Engineer is responsible for the design and documentation of electrical power systems (including single line and circuit drawings). Additionally, the Power Systems Electrical Design Engineer is to continually build on Dematec’s knowledge-base of latest electrical design techniques and products available on the market.

Key Relationships / Interactions

Reports to the Operations Manager; maintains close collaboration with the management team.

Special Conditions

• Based at Melrose Park
• Frequent work away from the office at customer premises (Adelaide based customer)
• Out of hours work may be required
• Must hold a current drivers licence
• Interstate Travel may be required

Key Accountabilities

• Electrical Engineering Design and Documentation

Develop and produce relevant electrical engineering designs and associated documentation in accordance with latest Australian standards and specific customer requirements.

• Design Review

Review and accept designs in accordance with the provisions of the electrical engineering competency framework.

• Tender Preparation

Contribute to tender preparation for RFT submissions through the provision of expert technical advice throughout the process.

• Technical Investigations and Specifications

Participate in investigations as required, and prepare draft technical investigation reports and technical specifications.

• Guidance and Mentoring

Provide technical guidance to the design team in the production of accurate electrical designs and drawings. Provide assistance and/or coaching to team members by communicating goals and advising on technical and safety issues to facilitate the achievement of project objectives, and the development of employees.

• Management Liaison

Liaise with Management, Senior Engineers, and other relevant discipline members of the project team on project specifications and requirements.

• Project Planning and Review

Identify issues and resolve problems related to technical specifications, budgets, safety, quality, environmental, standards and resourcing by following established procedures to minimise the impact on the delivery of design projects.

• Reporting

Report to the Principal Engineer / Group Leader regarding the status of design projects so a collaborative approach can be taken to address issues as they arise.

• Maintain awareness of change in relevant Australian standards
• Work with management and engineering team to provide on-going electrical engineering services to major clients
• Focus on quality improvement
• Develop other engineering team members

Requirements:
Person Specification

Qualifications

• Essential – Graduate degree in electrical engineering or equivalent

Essential Knowledge / Skills / Experience

• Minimum 2 years experience in electrical engineering design discipline
• Experience with design, construction and maintenance of power systems infrastructure
• Experience with AutoCAD, Eplan or equivalent electrical drawing software
• Excellent communication and report writing skills
• Ability to work both independently, as a team member and to manage others
• Ability to meet deadlines and budgets.
• Ability to deal with pressure, ambiguity and change
• Ability to provide high quality customer services
• Ability to work without direct supervision and to meet deadlines

Desirable Knowledge / Skills / Experience

• Experience in Power-Transmission, Distribution, substations and cables
• Experience in construction and commissioning
• Knowledge of engineering design hazard risk analysis
• Experience in a utility or consultancy
• Experience in power systems – 132kV or above
• Experience with fault studies, load flow analysis and protection
• Experience with earthing, lightning, EMF
• Understanding of DC traction system simulation
