Location: Saudi Arabia POSITION DESCRIPTION: Saudi Aramco Research and Development Center provides technical expertise and support to the refineries operated by Saudi Aramco. The Downstream Research Team is lead by the Downstream Program Director and reports via the Manager of R&DC to the Vice President of Refining. Downstream Research's mission is to lead research and technology activities for Saudi Aramco's refining business. The Downstream Research Team provides the central source of technical expertise to Saudi Aramco refineries. Currently Saudi Aramco's refining capacity is around 1.5 million barrels per day and this business sector is developing a progressive stance to produce clean fuels and to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Advancements in Refining are major elements of Saudi Aramco,s Technology Program. Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) particularly High Olefin FCC research is a major theme within the program. We are seeking a number of scientists with a background in catalysis and process chemistry to staff a new program aimed at generating and testing novel catalyst and process improvements in FCC. The Research Scientist-Catalysis and Process Chemistry will report to the Project Leader Oil to Petrochemicals. These roles will interact with other members of the Downstream Strategic Research Team, the Saudi Aramco technology community, refinery management and staff, University Institutions as well as joint partners, alliances and other third parties. Additionally, these roles will work on an individual basis or as ad hoc members of multidisciplinary teams comprised of catalyst and process scientists, research engineers and laboratory technicians. The Oil to Petrochemicals Program is increasingly recognized as strategically critical and along with increasing focus on technology as a competitive advantage means this program has a high level of exposure and similar expectations around delivery.
SELECTION CRITERIA: To be considered for the role of Research Scientist-Catalysis and Process Chemistry applicants must have: A minimum of 5 years of experience in a research and development role in the refining or petrochemical industry. A good track record of innovation, along with demonstrated capabilities in technology delivery, third-party relationships, team membership and project management. Experience in refinery and petrochemical catalytic processes. A excellent knowledge of refinery processes. An understanding of intellectual property issues. A flexible style of working, along with demonstrable enthusiasm. The ability to initiate projects. The ability to work in multicultural teams. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to understand and adhere to budgets. The willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time in order to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
Saudi Aramco's Research and Development Center's mission is to conduct pioneering research, introduce new technology and provide specialized technical services that will enhance Saudi Aramco profitability and productivity in a cost-effective, timely and collaborative manner. There are eight projects identified within the R&D downstream program with the objective to protect the future market for oil: Whole Crude Oil Desulfurization Petroleum Combustion Oil to Hydrogen Carbon Management Oil to Chemicals Clean Fuels Natural Gas Supply & Sulfur Biotechnology
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: An Advanced Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or Refining is preferred
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: To be considered for the role of Catalysis and Process Chemistry Specialist applicants must have a thorough knowledge of; Generating and developing novel catalysts and catalyst improvements. Investigating and optimizing novel process chemistry. Initiating and executing agreed experimental programs aimed at satisfying program goals. Developing an in-depth understanding of the fundamental aspects of FCC catalysts and processes. Performing analysis and reporting of experimental data. Meeting team requirements for safe operation and timely reporting.-
