Senior Electrical Engineer – US Operations

Summary:
To provide electrical engineering designs and support as required by clients and company operations

General Duties & Responsibilities:
• Design of control and instrumentation systems for mine plan equipment and systems
• Design and specification of drive and related control systems for mine plant electrical systems
• Design and specification of power distribution systems for surface and underground mine plants
• Assist in the start-up and commissioning of shaft sinking electrical plant, including winches, hoist controls, interlocks and obstructions
• Assist in the start-up and commissioning of electrical equipment and control systems
• Assist in electrical estimation of capital and operating costs for shaft sinking and mine plant electrical systems
• Co-ordinate the preparation of electrical drawings
• Sign and seal electrical drawings for construction purposes
• Provide backup and support to the US General Manager of Engineering during times of absence or when circumstances dictate

Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Provide engineering supervision of on site construction of electrical installations
• Provide support to US General Manager of Engineering to ensure drawings are completed on schedule

Health & Safety:
• Work in compliance with U.S. federal and state regulatory and statutory requirements for Health and Safety
• Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for organization, also applicable to outside clients and Operations Groups projects
• Be aware of any health and safety hazards or infractions and report same to Health and Safety Department

Client Focus:
• Ensure that Operations’ goals and objectives are completely understood and communicated to the US Engineering Group
• Strive to satisfy our external clients’ needs and always clarify/communicate with them how the engineering group can best meet their objectives in terms of resources, cost and schedule
• Follow-up with all clients on services provided and determine level of satisfaction and how services can be improved (this is a requirement of our ISO certification)

Qualifications/Education/Experience:
• Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering
• 10 - 15 years of engineering design experience in an industrial setting (preferably mining)
• Registered Professional Engineer designation (state of Utah preferred)

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
• Ability to handle change
• Self-starter
• Work with minimal supervision
• Self-critical of own work
• Knowledge of mining, mine plant construction and shaft sinking methodologies
• Power systems design
• PLC control of systems
• Practical field knowledge of electrical power and control systems

Computer Applications Used:
• Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Project)
• PLC programming as required
