Position Summary:
The H & S Superintendant is responsible for the provision of H & S support, direction, assistance and services to all operating managers, together with the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting upon site wide H & S policies, procedures and standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Occupational Health and Safety Management
• Develop, coordinate and manage the implementation of a site-wide occupational health & safety program to ensure the application recognized standards and MSHA compliance
• Monitor performance and provide proactive advice to managers to ensure that all operations are carried out in compliance with Company environmental, health & safety guidelines, policies, procedures and legislation
• Actively promote the recognition at all staff levels, that safety of personnel is of the highest priority and cannot be compromised
• Audit and report upon the performance of all departments to ensure compliance with all H & S standards
• Regularly review and recommend enhancements to Company policies and procedures to ensure the implementation of world class occupational health and safety standards across the business
• Ensure that the site meets its obligations to its employees in providing a safe and healthy workplace
Qualifications/Experience:
• Bachelors Degree in Occupational Health or a related field
• Minimum of 10 years experience in mining, with experience at a management level
• Strong knowledge of MSHA regulations, MSHA certification a plus
• Proven leadership skills and abilities to develop local staff
• Hands on management style encouraging participative and entrepreneurial input but with clearly focused business goals
