Position Title: Technology Advisor for Oil and Chemical Spill Response
Location: Fairfax, Virginia

Position Description: Provide technical expertise in support of oil spill technology and spill response preparedness for global operations in Refining, Distribution, Fuels, Lubricants, Chemicals, and upstream operations and facilities. This includes supporting a wide range of corporate projects by addressing potential spill issues in the global movement of crude oil, petroleum products, and petrochemicals.
Primary Responsibilities:
Work with corporate representatives, regulatory authorities, spill response organizations, industry partners, as well as trade associations, non-government organizations, and the public to identify and promote spill response strategies that are effecive, efficient, and based on credible scientific and engineering principles
Apply scientific, engineering, and business principles to evalutate technical, operational, and economic aspects of equipment, tactics, and strategies used during a spill response, and ensure that world-class and worldwide spill response capabilities are maintained
Serve as corporate expert and industry leader in knowledge of existing and developing oil spill response equipment and global response strategies. Scope of efforts will include procedures and equipment for oil spill containment and recovery, chemical dispersants, in-situ burning, bioremediation, remote sensing, and computer modeling
Evaluate where new R&D can improve existing spill response technologies and design experimental tests to evaluate new technologies
Background Requirements:
Advanced degree in a relevant Science or Engineering discipline, with strong chemistry and basic science or engineering background
Sustantial technical expertise in oil & chemical spill technology and experienced in spill response preparedness in the petrochemical industry
Demonstrated skills in technical analysis and critical thinking applied to R&D
Experience and willingness to work as a member of an oil spill response team during emergency situations
Strong interpersonal skills to interact with diverse stakeholders
Ability to travel extensively, including internationally, up to 50%, and adaptable to various work schedules based on travel or emergency response needs
