Job Title: Health & Safety Superintendent

Blackwater Mine is one of the world's largest open-cut coal operations, producing 13 mtpa of metallurgical and thermal coal and is located just outside Blackwater. With a population of approximately 8,000 residents Blackwater offers a diverse range of sporting, social and educational facilities. An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Health and Safety Superintendent to join the team at Blackwater Mine. As the successful candidate you will provide health & safety support, guidance and mentoring to a diversified stakeholder group and lead a dedicated team of OHS professionals.

Actively promoting a high level of health and safety awareness you will contribute to the ongoing development, implementation and monitoring of Blackwater Mine's Safety and Health Management System through promotion, motivation and involvement in projects and initiatives that create a zero harm culture.

Your core accountabilities will include:

v Ensuring commitment to safety standards & initiatives in order to achieve Zero Harm;

v Leading, coaching and mentoring key personnel to implement HSE initiatives and programs;

v Achieving performance metrics, and coordinating audits of Health, Safety and Environmental performance.

v Promoting positive employee relations through effective communication and consultation; and v Managing Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation programs.

Skills and Experience

Ideally you will have relevant tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field, along with extensive experience in an advisory or senior HSE position. Expertise in mining or a heavy industry environment is essential.

You will have a demonstrated knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and a strong track record of achievements in past safety roles, as well as sound experience with managing Health & Safety systems. Your technical strengths will be complemented by excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills, crucial to driving improvements and developing constructive relationships with all stakeholders.
