Think Zero Harm
At BHP Billiton, our vision for sustainable development is to be the company of choice - creating sustainable value for shareholders, employees, contractors, suppliers, customers, business partners and host communities. Central to our vision is our aspirational goal of Zero Harm to people, the environment and the community.
Our people are our most significant asset and number one priority and our Zero Harm goal drives all our operations. A demonstrated commitment to health and safety leadership is a pre-requisite for being considered for any opportunities or career advancement within the business.
Think Place
BHP Billiton owns the Yeelirrie uranium deposit in central Western Australia, located near Wiluna. The deposit is Australia’s second largest undeveloped uranium deposit. The development project, currently in the selection stage, will design and build Western Australia’s first large-scale, open pit uranium mine in the safest and most efficient manner.
The position is based with the project team in Perth, Western Australia where you can enjoy a relaxed and easygoing lifestyle. The Mediterranean climate, beach lifestyle, cosmopolitan cafes and restaurants, plus great schools and vacation destinations, make Perth an ideal place to live.
Think Opportunity
An unique opportunity currently exists for an experienced, senior mining professional to join the Yeelirrie team in the early stages of project development and help create the future of Western Australia’s first uranium mine. As Mining & Technical Services Manager you will be responsible for all aspects of resource development, mine planning, mine engineering including hydrogeology / water supply, and mining operations development.
Think Purpose
Your contribution will be to lead a small, focused team of high-performing professionals, contractors and consultants that will delineate the mineral resource through surface drilling programs, create suitable block models and mine plans from which to select an optimum mining methodology and thereby optimise project configuration and economics through the Selection and Definition phases.
Leading a culture of zero harm you will liaise with study groups and key stakeholders to ensure the water study objectives throughout the different study phases are met and are consistent with mandatory requirements.
You will be responsible for capital and operating cost estimates for all associated aspects of mining during the study phases. Working with various study groups, contractors and construction engineers you will coordinate the activities required to plan, conduct and deliver the project execution including HSE design, risk management, design, engineering, procurement, cost scheduling, construction activities, start-up, and turn over in a cost effective and timely manner, with due consideration to best available technologies and mining innovation.
With Board approval to execute the project, the role will logically migrate into a senior operational role, leading the implementation of the mine plan in the Execution and subsequent Operation phases of the project
Think Requirements
Degree qualified in Mining / Civil Engineering or the Earth Sciences, you will have extensive mine engineering / technical services experience in the mining industry, demonstrating senior operations experience in a small to mid-size open pit mine. You will also demonstrate operational contracts and drilling management experience and have a depth of experience in water management projects and operations. A post graduate engineering qualification or MBA would be highly advantageous.
This is a Perth-based position with travel required.
