BHP Billiton Iron Ore is an industry leader in the supply of iron ore to the global steel industry. We are expanding our operations through a series of Rapid Growth Projects to help us meet demand. We are increasing our mine, rail and port capacity and developing new, high value-in-use products to provide steel makers with competitive advantages. Our newest growth project, Rapid Growth Project 5, will take installed capacity at our Iron Ore operations to 205mpta by the second half of calendar year 2011. We invite applications from highly self-motivated and team-spirited individuals for the position of Storeperson within the Locomotive Overhaul Workshop. You will be required to undertake shift work, involving twelve-hour shifts. You will actively contribute to the achievement of productivity and production targets through the efficient supply of equipment and materials to customers

Position Synopsis

To be successful in this role you must have a strong commitment to safety and an eye on adhering to operating procedures and instructions, you will be required to document, store and dispatch ordered goods in a timely manner. You will also have the opportunity to apply your proven initiative in identifying and solving problems, as you document and arrange delivery of equipment and tools.

Operating in a climate of continuous improvement, your other key accountabilities will include:

* Operation of Forklift in Workshop area;
* Manage and document tool registers;
* Manage all parts and equipment throughout the workshop;
* Manage incoming and outgoing spare parts to allocated jobs thru GSAP;
* Manage and Tracking of all consumable items including re order;
* Maintain housekeeping of the storage areas in and around the workshop;
* Assist with workshop toll audits and 3 monthly scheduled inspections;
* Assist in chemical audits and maintain correct storage procedures;
* Sound knowledge of GSAP; and
* Mechanical knowledge for minor tool repairs.

Skills and Experience

To be considered, you need to have current ‘C’ class driver’s licence and a forklift ticket, with a truck licence preferred but not essential. You must have a methodical, systematic approach to work, coupled with a track record of operating effectively with limited supervision. In addition the successful candidate will have previous experience in a similar role.

Local conditions apply

This role is only open to people who can supply their own housing in Port Hedland in accordance with BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s Housing policy.
