ROLE PROFILE:
The Sr. Development Geologist will be responsible for providing high quality geoscience technical leadership to the Scarborough/Thebe multi-disciplinary Subsurface Team. The Scarborough/Thebe gas project are two large gas fields located in offshore Western Australia. BHP Billiton is a JV partner in the Scarborough project which is operated by Exxon-Mobil. The Thebe project is operated and owned 100% by BHPBilliton. The Sr. Development Geologist will work closely with other subsurface team members in a shared responsibility to deliver successful results within the agreed development tollgate schedule, fiscal budgets and HSEC/Regulatory/Commercial criteria. Primary focus of the position is the quantification of resource ranges, subsurface risk and uncertainty determination and development plan optimization through subsurface 3D mapping and modelling. The role will also likely encompass work on other Western Australia Developments that may be worked on by the Houston office. This role involves occasional business travel (up to 4 times per year) to Australia
KEY DELIVERABLES / ACCOUNTABILITIES:
* Provide responsive, expert geologic advice to the team, working with geoscientists and engineers to develop high quality geological models.
* Build advanced 3D geocellular models and upscale them as required to carry out simulation studies.
* Integrate well, core, subsurface studies and log data. Carry out reservoir mapping and provide input to volumetrics and reserves estimation (both in-place and recoverable).
* Participate as needed in well project and planning teams.
* Perform administrative tasks in an effective and efficient manner and contribute to the achievement of team goals and objectives.
* Maintain active contact with professional societies; develop and maintain networks and relationships with key peers across the company and industry for idea-sharing and capability development
* Support and participate in HSEC initiatives and ensure compliance with the agreed HSEC procedures and practices of all activities in areas of discipline responsibility

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* The Sr. Development Geologist will take on a lead technical role in specific projects and also perform well in an organizational matrix comprising both functional and project structures..
* The position requires that the candidate be capable of making sound decisions and recommendations to the Geoscience, Drilling, Operations, and Subsurface Engineering teams and subsurface IPT’s (many times with incomplete or imprecise information).
* Communication with line and functional management of subsurface progress and understanding as it develops.
* Maintain contact with Peer network and internal specialists, engaging them as necessary for advice, assists and reviews.
* Mentoring of junior peers, knowledge sharing with the greater BHPB geoscience community.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors Geoscience Degree or better
8+ years in upstream oil and gas industry with experience from the following areas:
Technical work to a high level of competence and complexity across the range of appraisal, development and production settings.
Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams, experience in deepwater and/or large complex development projects is desired:
* Practical working knowledge of development geology, 3D geocellular model construction, computer workstation interpretation and mapping, reservoir connectivity and basic reservoir engineering is required.
* Creative thinking and a proactive self starter.
* The ability to work with and influence JV partners.
A track record of strong communication (both oral and written) and influencing skills.
Fluent verbal and written English language.
