Reporting to the Manager Geotechnical Services, BMA has an opportunity for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer in Geotechnical Services, a part of the Delivery Improvement Group. The Geotechnical Services Group consists of a team of geotechnical personnel and support staff that operates as an internal consultancy providing geotechnical support across BMA’s operations.
Your prime focus will be managing geotechnical risk through developing and maintaining appropriate systematic/procedural controls with technical service and mining operation teams, ensuring safe and efficient operation within BMA guidelines and legislated Queensland Coal mining requirements. Your duties will include both operational and project responsibilities, conducting geotechnical investigations (safety and design), planning and consultant support to the operational and technical services teams. You will take part in small to medium size expansion project investigations contributing to recommendations and reports and closely working with BMA project teams.
Specific responsibilities include:
* Geotechnical analysis using software including Galena and Rocscience suite of programs.
* Train site personnel on geotech mine design standards and requirements.
* Provide safe and optimized geotechnical design recommendations for highwall, lowwalls, boxcuts and ramp access utilizing truck/shovel fleets and dragline operations.
* Provide input into mine planning and operational management controls for safe and optimized open cuts.
* Mentoring and auditing review of other geotechnical engineers design and operational recommendations.
* Assist with development and implementation of long term geotechnical strategies.
* Mentoring of geotechnical services team.
You will have significant geotechnical experience (+10 years) with open cut operations demonstrating exposure to truck and shovel, dragline, drill and blast operations, and hydrogeology/soil mechanics. Past experience with Vulcan or similar mine modelling packages is important.
The successful candidate will have a degree in mining engineering or geological engineering with a post-graduate geotechnical degree an advantage. You will have acquired a charter professional or RPEQ status or must have the ability to acquire.
