POSITION SUMMARY:
* The person will be responsible for the geological evaluation and support of BHP Billiton’s interests in Malaysia, with a strong focus on regional play fairway analysis and input to the prospect generation process.
* The Senior Geoscientist will form part of a small team reporting to the Technical Manager in Kuala Lumpur and will work closely with the core prospect team as part of a larger Asia Exploration Team that reports to the Asia Exploration Manager.
CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
* An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
* Evaluation of other Malaysian acreage opportunities via PETRONAS data rooms.
* Assist in the development of a Sabah Trough deepwater clastic reservoir framework that guides expectations for net to gross, porosity-permeability-saturation and production rate and recovery vs. pay characteristics including the prediction and analysis of the flow characteristics of thin-bed reservoirs.
* Assist in the development of a Tertiary regional carbonate play framework as it relates to Sabah Trough including implications from the regional tectonics of the South China Sea.
* Developing and planning for additional Operational activities - further seismic acquisition, processing, CSEM or piston core surveys.
* Working with and giving regular presentations to Joint Venture Partners and PETRONAS PMU.
* Involvement in BHP Billiton’s peer review process for the Sabah Trough drilling candidates - this will involve some travel to visit and integrate with the core prospect team in Houston.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor’s degree in geoscience minimum - Master’s degree in geoscience preferred.
EXPERIENCE & TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
* Minimum 10 years experience in petroleum exploration industry - with two or more years working the Sabah Trough or in strongly analogous deepwater settings.
* An excellent working knowledge of exploration processes from play fairway analysis to prospect maturation, with very strong geological interpretation and mapping skills both at regional and prospect level.
* Proven record in well operations and competency in volumetric assessment, risk assessment and the synthesis of diverse regional datasets.
* Familiarity with Petrel interpretation software would be highly advantageous.
* Languages: Excellent written and spoken English
