BHP Billiton is the world’s largest diversified resources company and is an industry leader in the supply of iron ore to the global steel industry from our Western Australian Iron Ore operations. We are expanding our mines and developing new, high value-in-use products to provide steel makers with competitive advantages in a series of large-scale rapid growth projects. As part of this expansion, BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s Resource Evaluation Group is undertaking a long-term integrated geological program to convert potential mineralisation through to resources and reserves, and to discover new iron ore deposits. We now require dynamic Team Leaders to manage the on-site activities of the Resource Evaluation Group at our Yandi and Yarrie iron ore operations.
An excellent opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and highly motivated professional to join the team at the Yandi Mining Operation as Superintendent Mine Planning. You will be responsible for, and assist with, the mine production planning, budgeting, and product quality grades from a daily operational perspective, overseeing daily activities performed by Yandi mine planning teams and the completion and supervision of short term planning activities to achieve production. You will also work with a world class long-range mine planning team off site to deliver a quality strategic development plan for the operations. These accountabilities will encompass the coordination and leadership with mine development and operations based projects. This is a vital role in Yandi and offers maximum growth potential.
Your main areas of responsibility will include but ate not limited too:

In absence of Yandi Manager the superintendent shall act as the employers principle representative for BHPBIO in relation to all matters of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act and mine operation management;

Assist with the coordination of the quality assurance requirements for Yandi;
*
Ensure that the Yandi mining operation, BHPBIO employees and contractors comply with relevant environmental commitments ;
*
Ensure that all behaviours associated with the assigned contracts are in line with the requirements of the BHP Billiton Guide to the business conduct;
*
Liaise regularly with the contractor to address any major issues preventing the mine plan being achieved;
*
Assist the Yandi Mine Manager with setting direction on a short, medium and long term basis for the BHPBIO employee group;
*
Oversee the daily coordination of activities relating to mine planning and grade control;
*
Track and report against compliance to the mine plan;
*
Ensure any human resources issues are addressed with each individual, considering the need for development or support if required;
* Assurance of the contractor's adherence to all BHPB WAIO standards and procedures as outlined in the contract;
* Liaise with and assist in the activities and actions of the group HSEC Manager and team;
* Initiation of and participation in the capture of site improvements and opportunities as appropriate;
* Optimise pit development and sequencing to increase ore recoveries;
* Act as site liaison for Geotechnical, Dewatering and Long Term planning departments; and
* Development and support of the various mine related operational projects associated with the mine development.
Skills and Experience
To be considered you will have a tertiary qualification in Mine Engineering or appropriate related geoscience discipline, together with 7 + years post graduate experience. Initiative and practical problem-solving skills are integral to the success of the position. You must possess sound interpersonal skills and have the ability to work within a small team. Exposure to Vulcan and XPAC software would be well regarded.
