Supply Superintendent

Barrick Africa is currently seeking to appoint a Supply Superintendent to manage and provide leadership to the Supply Chain, including Demand Management, Sourcing, Procurement and Expediting, Cataloguing and Inventory Management, Logistics, Disposals and Vendor Performance Management, keeping safety as a priority and work hands on with the Purchasing section to ensure on time delivery of materials of the right quality to customers at the best possible total cost to the company.

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Actively participating in a Succession Planning and mentoring program amongst the Supply Chain team that ensures that PML commitments to the Tanzanian government with respect to the development of Tanzanian employees to allow them to assume positions of increasing accountability are achieved.

• Provide leadership to the Supply Chain team to ensure KPIs and other targets are met and to assist direct reports in achieving their full potential by gaining new skills through effective mentoring. Maintain High Performance Team.

• Implement Supply Chain strategy in a manner that facilitates the achievement of Buzwagi and Regional business strategies and objectives.

• To be pro-active in all aspects of operational safety, efficient utilization of the resources and encourage teamwork across the departments.

• Follow PML site safety rules at all times.

• Actively participate in and occasionally lead safety meetings and discussions.

• Develop and maintain relationships with internal customers and external suppliers.

• Identify potential savings opportunities and take appropriate action. Explore these ideas and complete CI initiatives for the potential cost savings.

• Continually review every aspect of the areas’ activities to ensure that opportunities to add value and enhance shareholder wealth are identified and brought forward for review.

• Monitor employee performance to ensure optimum performance and initiate appropriate action to remedy any substandard employee performance or behaviour.

• Ensure auditing of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with statutory, PML and Group requirements to do with Supply Chain.

• Provide training, supervision and direction to subordinates in the application and execution of acceptable inventory control, purchasing and cataloguing practices.

PROFESSIONAL AND INTERPERSONAL DETAILS

Education & requirements:

• Diploma or Degree with Supply Chain/Logistics specialisation

Minimum of 10 years in Materials / Supply management of which at least 3 were in a leadership role in a remote Mining environment.

Knowledge of Tanzanian Importation requirements and processes.

Experience:

• Demonstrated understanding of Supply Chain operations and Warehouse and Logistics requirements within the supply operations of large resource companies.

• Understanding and capability to implement Process Improvement Methodologies

• Daily systems use of an ERP system – Pronto beneficial

• Proven ability to operate in remote locations

• Proven ability to train and develop National Staff

• Sound analytical skills

• Excellent English verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
