Environmental Officer
The primary function of this position is to assist in the planning, co-ordination and implementation of environmental management activities for the mine site. The successful candidate will report to and work in conjunction with the current Environmental Officer 2.
Major Responsibilities:
Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner.
Oversee monitoring requirements in accordance with air, water and land reclamation permits to ensure environmental compliance with all relevant acts, regulations and that all permit conditions are met or exceeded.
Ensure preparation of associated regulatory reports and amendment applications are performed in an accurate and timely manner.
Co-ordinate and direct both long term and short term land reclamation programs and tracking reclamation progress.
Develop, implement and manage research requirements in order to achieve environmental objectives. This includes supervision of consultants and contractors.
Participate in company/corporate environmental projects and initiatives.
Assist with government and community consultations.
Assist in budget preparation and cost tracking including asset retirement obligations.
Assist in the tracking and maintenance of the ISO 14001 environmental management system and perform internal environmental site inspections of the operation.
Assist in all environmental audits (Internal, Corporate, and Government)
Participate in environmental committees and undertake projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a post secondary degree in Forestry, Biology, Agriculture, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. Previous mining experience and environmental management are considered significant assets. Candidates will also have superior written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to excel in a technical team environment. Familiarity with the environmental regulations applicable to the mining industry in British Columbia would be an asset.
