Senior Manager, Accounting Policy and Reporting

Currently Barrick has an opening for a Senior Manager, Accounting Policy & External Reporting for our Financial Reporting department. Below are the key responsibilities for the position and qualifications.

The overall key responsibilities for this role include:

Accounting Research and Policy

Technical accounting research at Barrick, as assigned, including the following:

• Monitor accounting, financial reporting and regulatory developments

• Assess impact of new pronouncements and business developments on financial reporting and disclosure

• Manage and facilitate the implementation process for new pronouncements throughout Barrick

• Manage & Maintain Company Accounting Policy Manual ensuring it reflects o current US GAAP and o acceptable industry practices

Assessment of financial reporting aspects of mergers & acquisitions; divestitures, supply contracts; and other complex transactions including: goodwill allocation; asset retirement obligations; variable interest entities; etc, as assigned to support regional and corporate groups within Barrick.

Provide consultation and advice to Regional Business Units and Results Group on financial reporting issues

Manage the Accounting Issues Management process and work with Barrick Auditors in respect of accounting policy issues, U.S. GAAP issues and accounting treatment for non-routine transactions

Provide formal and informal training to operational finance personnel globally on accounting policies and new US GAAP pronouncements, including delivery of training programs at the Corporate and Regional Units as assigned

Training duties may include assisting Director in:

• Assessing training needs (e.g. through formal/informal surveys, identifying common areas of interest or ambiguity based on inquiries received or new policies issued)

• Developing training courses and materials

• Course delivery

External Reporting

Assist in the preparation of the MD&A, as assigned, including co-ordination and communication with the many stakeholders that give input to content

Assist with technical review of Financial Statements for compliance with US GAAP and any relevant regulatory requirements prior to its presentation to the Audit Committee and public release

Support group’s objective of implementing best practices for our external reporting through benchmarking within the industry and among public issuers who are leaders in external financial reporting, and make recommendations for improvements

Drafting of various notes to the Financial Statements as assigned

Assist in the preparation of communications to the Disclosure Committee and Audit Committee relating to MD&A and Financial Statements/results of operations

Provide support for Investor Relations communications as assigned

Other

Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), particularly as it applies to the mining industry is desirable as Barrick examines possible conversion timeline.

Minimum qualifications for this position include:

Chartered Accountant Designation (CA, CPA or equivalent)

*
Greater than 5 years of experience in financial reporting/accounting policy

*
High degree of competence with US GAAP

*
Exposure to a global matrix organization

*
Mining experience an asset
