Location: Saudi Arabia POSITION DESCRIPTION: Incumbent will be responsible for running operation and maintenance of all jacking and auxiliary machinery on board of Saudi Aramco Offshore rigs.
SELECTION CRITERIA: High School with 15 years of experience as Barge Captain on Jackup drilling rigs.
COMMENTS: The department currently operates 7 Saudi Aramco owned and 6-12 contractor oil drilling and workover rigs, in addition to 10-15 waterwells, drilling and working over oil/water wells in remote locations including offshore throughout Saudi Aramco Operating areas. The new hire barge captains are required to man the new offshore jackup rig and to mentor the Saudi Barge Captains who are currently under training.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Gives direction to senior engine room staff. This includes the First Engineer with unlimited license; Second Engineer with second engineer's unlimited license; electrician and electronic officer suitably licensed for Marine craft, as well as four other junior staff. Responsible 24 hours a day to ensure that all electrical generating propulsions, jacking, auxiliary machinery and hotel services are running and operational. Ensure that proper and safe operating procedures for all machinery are followed. Diagnoses, identifies and ensures all machinery problems in the field are corrected promptly. Directs preventive maintenance programs on all machinery to ensure that the vessel achieves maximum performance and availability for the user department and is maintained in class by the American Bureau of Shipping Standards for Offshore Mobile Platforms. Verifies consumable and spare parts stock level and prepares necessary paper works for re-issue of the used and additional items. Reviews spare parts lists regularly to ensure they are up-to-date and will support installed equipment. Works directly with the Master to ensure that the Unit is always in the proper loaded condition for sailing, jacking and stabilizing on location. Verifies and signs engine room log book daily and maintains all machinery history record in accordance with the preventive maintenance schedule and good engineering practice. As the setting-up on locations is a combined operation, i.e.; propulsion and jacking incumbent operates the jacking controls located in the wheelhouse under the direction of the Rig Move Master (who at this time will be maneuvering) and is on hand to assist and advise in case of system malfunctions. (Sr. Rig Move Master would be on hand to maneuver and/or advise on critical rig or barge moves). Ensure that all safety equipment on board the vessel is operational and that all engine room personnel are familiar with the operation of this equipment and are trained to react in the event of hydrocarbon gas release or fire and are familiar with lifeboat drills. Participates in the training of Saudi Arabs from new hire until they attain the full job of barge or chief engineer.
