Location: Saudi Arabia POSITION DESCRIPTION: Provides expert advice, technical assistance and operational problem response in the field of marine science; and reviews existing operations within area of expertise to determine potential environmental problems and remedies to existing problems. Makes recommendations to reduce environmental impacts of new projects, and improve operation of existing facilities. Executes scheduled Environmental Performance Assessments of Company facilities to identify and eliminate or minimize the environmental impact of company operations. Discusses, coordinates and resolves environmental problems not only within the Department but also throughout Saudi Aramco, its subsidiaries and with outside organizations. Designs, scopes, plans, schedules and provides work direction as needed for environmental programs. Performs technical environmental studies, assures efficiency and conformance to overall objectives to all phases of the studies. Estimates cost, prepares justifications and offers expertise as required for environmental projects and studies. Develops and undertakes environmental monitoring programs, studies and publications. Maintains applicable environmental engineering standards to ensure that state-of-the-art cost effective methods and best environmental practices are followed. Reviews government issued Environmental Protection Standards and Regulations for cost impacts on capital projects. Acts as Saudi Aramco's representative in dealings with environmental contractors as they pertain to incumbent's field of expertise. Reviews and evaluates the capabilities of contractors to determine heir acceptability perform major environmental services for Saudi Aramco. Provides training and/or mentoring to young environmental engineers/scientists. Keeps abreast of significant developments in the environmental field of specialty. Conducts seminars/workshops in the resolution of technical environmental problems with personnel from Project Management, Operations and other organizations. Develops and presents training courses on pertinent environmental issues to junior and senior level professionals within the Company.
SELECTION CRITERIA: Requires MS or PhD in the field of marine biology/ecology/biological oceanography with specialized marine environmental research credentials. Requires at least 10-15 years of hands on experience in marine environmental research and impact assessment studies. Experience in management and execution of major environmental studies is required. Management or participation in oil-industry related environmental projects is highly desirable. Diving and Field experience in marine research is essential as is knowledge of areas of interest in the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea. Secondary experience in other environmental fields is a plus. The candidate must have working knowledge of computers and applicable modeling and database software along with experience leading multidisciplinary team efforts in conducting project environmental assessments and environmental monitoring studies. Must have excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Should have history of attending technical conferences and course; presenting technical papers, and giving technical training.
Researches and consults on special issues relating to marine biology and oceanography. Conducts marine monitoring in the areas of toxicity bioassay and marine bio-accumulation. Consults on the processing and monitoring of industrial and sanitary wastewater. Conducts special studies on marine modeling, joint research, new technologies, risk assessments and guidelinesfor protected areas. Provides technical support for the oil spill response team. Prepares tide tables for the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea.
