POSITION SUMMARY:
The position of Development Geologist is Houston based and reporting to the Subsurface Manager, Pre-Developments. The incumbent will be responsible for development geology input to all major projects managed by the Developments team. This new role presents an opportunity to join a newly established subsurface team within Developments and to contribute to value creation through work on a variety of projects. This position has the responsibility to provide the Developments team with accurate geological analysis and modeling of the subsurface. Depending on the project, this will be achieved through direct application of the latest interpretation and modeling techniques, through collaboration with asset subsurface teams and Exploration Regional Studies Teams and/or by effectively influencing joint venture partnerships.
ROLE / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Delivery of geological interpretations and geological models and characterization of field structure and stratigraphy necessary to highlight the reserves potential and prospective development opportunities throughout the Development portfolio
• Competency in Sequence Stratigraphic Concepts required to maintain state-of-art stratigraphic frameworks and reservoir architecture that validates well-log correlations with seismic stratigraphy, MDT pressure data and field performance data
• Work with Reservoir Engineering counterpart to maintain a Development Opportunity Inventory
• In conjunction with the Geophysicist, build and maintain static geological models and fully document all work completed
• Characterize the geological risks and uncertainties, and formulate mitigation plans
• Integration of new well data and results into reservoir models and understand the implications for reserve or resource estimates
• Jointly deliver field development plans with technical team members and provide geological input for FDP documents for submission to relevant governing bodies or joint venture partners Evaluate and justify appraisal well locations and provide geological input for appraisal well proposals. Evaluate impact of appraisal wells on characterization of reserves distribution, sand development, structure and field development plan
• Develop value added data acquisition plan (cores, special logging tools e.g. FMI, CMR) to improve reservoir understanding, production potential, hydrocarbon and contaminant content, and sanding tendency for the appraisal wells
• Provide operational geologist support during drilling operations including QC of logging and sampling, selection of coring points, etc.
• Develop pore pressure predictions for planned wells
• Geological data management for the Developments team
• Quality control / assurance of log, core and test data
• Coordination of routine and special core analysis measurement programs
• Assist the Subsurface team members to specify data acquisition requirements
• Participation in defining and executing evaluation strategies and programs
• Mentoring less experienced team members, new hires and interns as required
Qualifications
SKILLS / COMPETENCIES:
• Strong geological interpretation and modeling skills sufficient to deliver geological models that effectively characterize the reservoir, define the reserves distribution accurately and enable the generation of robust field development plans
• Extensive experience in deep water environment
• Work with the team geophysicist to QA/QC modeling input data and develop sensitivity production profiles to characterize the impact of uncertainties and to develop mitigation plans
• Familiarity with well & seismic interpretation and static earth 3D Modeling
• Extensive experience in field development planning and economic evaluation
• Well operations experience
• Good understanding of all subsurface issues
• Capable of problem solving and always looking for efficient operational solutions
• Self-starter, able to work independently and collaborate fully as part of a multi-disciplined team. Able to work to tight deadlines and effective at multi-tasking
• Culturally sensitive and able to effectively influence partners in a Joint Venture work environment.
• Ability to work in the developing world
• Positive attitude, self-motivating and proactive team worker
• Good presenter with strong communication skills and confident in representing the company at technical and operational meetings involving Partners and Governments.
• Mentoring of more junior staff and transferring of knowledge to the organization as a whole
EXPERIENCE:
12 years or more work experience in relevant geoscience disciplines
• Experience with Geoframe geological interpretation packages
• Experience with Petrel geomodelling software
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
MSc in Geoscience or related discipline with formal training courses in various development geologist functions
• Good understanding of petroleum geology, geophysics, petrophysics and awareness of reservoir engineering
