Goonyella Riverside is one of nine Coal Mines and a port operated by BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance in Central Queensland. Goonyella Riverside is one of the largest open-cut coal operations in the world, producing in excess of 13.5 million tonnes per annum of hard coking coal. Employees of Goonyella Riverside mine reside in Moranbah, a modern well-serviced town with a population of over 10,000, located 190 kilometres south west of Mackay and the Whitsunday Coast.

We currently have a vacancy for a suitably qualified and experienced Mechanical Engineer in the Mine Maintenance Department, reporting to the Engineering Services Superintendent.

The primary focus of this Mechanical Engineering role will be to support the financial management of the department in consultation with the Mine Maintenance Leadership team as well as providing Engineering stewardship through adherence to relevant standards and statutory obligations.

Key responsibilities of the role will include:

* Taking a lead role in the reduction of injuries and incidents within the workplace through demonstration of visible leadership, understanding and effectively managing risks, and the implementation of corrective action to eliminate hazards.

* Ensuring that general statutory responsibilities are fulfilled by: -

o Conducting safety observations, reporting and investigating issues requiring corrective action.

o Complying with HSEC responsibilities and legislative obligations.

o Participating in and implementing company HSEC processes and initiatives.

* Providing financial management guidance and identifying/implementing cost optimisation initiatives.

* Planning and executing of key engineering projects

* Identifying and implementing maintenance improvement projects.

* Ensuring compliance to engineering standards and processes.

* Overseeing of work undertaken by consultants and contractors.

* Managing Engineering Consultancy work.

* Managing of key engineering and maintenance information.

* Benchmarking performance to identify and implement improvement opportunities.

* Providing engineering support to relevant stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have:

* An unwavering commitment to safety and a track record of identifying and implementing safety modifications to equipment.

* Experience in financial management and a key understanding of maintenance cost drivers.

* Demonstrated success in a project engineering role, ideally within a mining environment.

* A high level of personal integrity.

* Effective leadership & supervisory skills.

* A proven record of delivering on agreed targets.

* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively as a team member.

* A demonstrated understanding of engineering & project management principles.

* A demonstrated understanding of cost management principles.

* A mechanical engineering degree would be an advantage.
