ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Promotes the five distinctive behaviors, as identified in the New Mexico Coal Safe Production Model.
Demonstrate and support the mine’s Vision, Mission and General Rules of Conduct and the BHP Billiton Charter.
Provides for the overall health, safety and work environment of the Maintenance Group and contractors by implementing the requirements of the New Mexico Coal Health and Safety Programs.
Supervises such that the planned performance and integrity of the Maintenance Group operates at the lowest practical cost.
Maximizes compliance with maintenance plans by ensuring that all activities under the control of the Maintenance Group are carried out in accordance with safe maintenance planning processes.
Ensures that communication and coordination occurs between shifts within the Maintenance Group, and between the Maintenance Group and all other Departments.
Provides routine maintenance training to crews.
Manages maintenance activities at the mine site.
Ensures that environmental and safety aspects and risks are considered in maintenance activities at the mine site.
Ensures that the appropriate actions are taken during an environmental event caused by maintenance activities.
Develops improvement plans to remedy issues identified during the maintenance improvement process.
Provides a harassment-free working environment for all employees by complying with the New Mexico Coal Rules of Conduct.
Ensures that the Maintenance Group staff and contract employees complete relevant health and safety training before the commencement of duties.
Conducts Human Resource Reviews and Performance Appraisals each year for members of the Maintenance Group.
Takes on other assignments as required to meet business needs.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required. Five years experience working with longwall, continuous mining, and conveyor systems together with a strong knowledge of mining equipment and maintenance work management. New Mexico Underground Mine Foreman certification required. Successful completion of the Supervisor Assessment Center for candidates that are not currently salaried supervisors. MSHA Electrical certification (low, medium, and high) required. Fundamental GSAP knowledge is required. Strong computer experience in the use of word processing and spreadsheets. Possess and maintain a Valid Drivers License. Ability to interact successfully at all levels of the organization and with vendors and public; and work effectively in a team-oriented, rapidly changing environment. Capability to understand and apply technical information from a variety of sources, follow instructions and demonstrate initiative in completing work within established time and budget constraints, and communicate and work as part of a team. Strong writing skills which include, the ability to accurately complete and maintain logs & reports, record information accurately, order supplies and materials in a timely manner. Proficiency in basic mathematical skills needed to perform essential functions. Understanding of the hazards and risks involved in the mining environment and a demonstrated pattern of conduct consistent with, the acceptance of responsibility for maintaining a safe work environment. Understanding of continuous mining, longwall, and conveyor equipment as well as the mining cycle. Consistent history of fully satisfactory performance is required. Successfully pass all phases on underground testing.
