In Guinea, BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s emerging interests are currently driven through our participation in the Société des Mines de Fer de Guinée (SMFG) joint venture pro-ject, aimed at developing Mount Nimba and associated iron ore projects.
Position Synopsis
We are seeking a multi talented individual with strong relationship management to lead, manage and develop the Commercial activities assigned to the Iron Ore Mt Nimba Project in West Africa. This varied role will manage the local service provision of the Finance, Procurement, Contracts, IT, Logistics and Human Resource functions in Guinea.
Reporting to the Project Director - Mt Nimba, you will be responsible for development and implementation of commercial and corporate services policies, procedures, processes, relationships and systems consistent with Iron Ore’s standards. You will participate on the Mt Nimba Leadership team and take accountability for aspects of the Strategic and Business Plan.
The successful incumbent will be accountable for all commercial and corporate reporting in-cluding financial and human resources reporting both internally and externally. They will also manage the development and implementation of corporate services contracts including the procurement of services, preparation of contracts and ongoing management of contracts. In addition, this person will manage the in country and external financial requirements of the Project, including overseeing expenditure against the budget, co-ordinating the auditing of accounts and overseeing payments. They will also be accountable for compliance with all in country legislation and will closely liaise with the Government departments in Guinea to ensure the Project meets legal obligations and commitments under agreements.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will have significant commercial management experience in-cluding leading negotiations, preparing tender packages, awarding contracts and contract management. You will also have had experience in finance, including management budgets and financial reporting and solid project management experience. Experience in developing countries is also preferred, but not essential.
We are seeking an action orientated individual with Tertiary qualifications in finance, economics, accounting or a closely related business discipline. To ensure your fit to this role you will be able to deal with ambiguity, demonstrate cultural sensitivity, strong communication and influencing skills. French language skills will be highly regarded.
Location
A competitive salary, which may include international relocation, will be offered to the successful applicant. We invite applications from international and Australian residents. The role will be based in the United Kingdom on 4 weeks on / 2 weeks off Fly In Fly Out roster rotation into Guinea.
This secondment/ contract opportunity will be for a period of twelve months (with possible extension for an additional 12 months).
