We are currently seeking Wellsite Geologists / Technologists for our Oil Sands winter drilling programs.
General Position Description
The primary role of the Oil Sands Wellsite Geologist /Technologist is to ensure that geology-related procedures are adhered to, and geological data is collected and recorded during drilling operations. Primary tasks include providing daily reports, picking core point and drill depths, describing chip samples, preliminary core descriptions, auditing and recording drilling/coring operations to ensure good core recoveries and efficiencies, and monitoring geophysical logging.
Successful candidates will report to a Project Manager and participate in many aspects of an oil sands exploration drilling program and may include project administration duties. Wellsite geologists will work on a rotational basis and will stay in a fully serviced camp while in the field. As rigs work 24 hours, some Night Shift work may be required. Norwest will supply all equipment required for the positions.
These positions will be 3 - 4 months in duration starting approximately December 2009 with the possibility for extension as the work load for field/core/office projects requires.
Skills and Experience:
Formal education in geology, geophysics, earth sciences or a related field.
Experience in oil sands drilling programs or geological field programs is an asset.
Motivated team players with a demonstrated desire to contribute and excel in a multidisciplinary work environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Willingness to travel including spending 2-3 week periods living in camp environment.
Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license or equivalent and current Driver’s Abstract.
Experience driving 4WD trucks on winter roads is an asset.
Conditions of Employment
All candidates selected for this position must meet the following conditions:
Pre-access drug and alcohol testing.
Industry training in PST/CSTS/WHIMS, Standard First Aid, H2S Alive and Winter Driving. Please submit proof of completion if you have current training in any of these courses. Norwest will provide training as required.
