Core Description Geologist / Technologist - Oil Sands Canada

We are currently seeking Core Description Geologists/Technologists for our Oil Sands winter drilling programs.
General Position Description
The primary role of the Oil Sands Core Description Geologist / Technologist is to ensure that accurate geological data is collected and recorded during core description processes. Primary tasks include depth correction to geophysical logs, detailed geological/geotechnical core descriptions, core recovery calculations and sample selection for analysis utilizing specialized core description software.
Successful candidates will participate in core description programs based in laboratories in North East Calgary.
These positions will be 3 - 6 months in duration starting approximately January 2010, with the possibility of extension as the work load for field/core/office projects requires.
Students in related disciplines taking a semester break or participating in a Co-op program will also be considered.
Skills and Experience:
Formal education in geology, geophysics, earth sciences or a related field.
Experience in geological core description of oil sands or sedimentary rocks is an asset.
Familiarity with computer applications such as Excel, PowerCore or WellCad software is an asset.
Motivated team players with a demonstrated desire to contribute and excel.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Conditions of Employment
All candidates selected for this position must meet the following conditions:
Industry training in PST/CSTS/WHIMS. Please submit proof of completion if you have current training in any of these courses. Norwest will provide training as required.
