Summary Description of Duties:
Accounting Supervisor
Purpose of Role
Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the incumbent is responsible for accounting department oversight and preparing/analyzing and reporting costs.
Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties
Identify issues, trends, and variances from operating plan for review with operating management.
Prepare cost/statistical reports on a regular basis.
Analyze costs in comparison to planned projections.
Prepare cost/benefit analysis for plans of action.
Prepare schedules and journal entries as part of the accounting close process.
Prepare operating plan for project using computer applications and spread sheets.
Undertake special projects as assigned.
Coordinate project cost tracking and analysis.
Conduct fixed asset analysis.
Prepare operating and financial forecasts.
Provide assistance to auditors, internal and external.
Scope of Responsibility and Accountability
Responsible for the direct supervision of Accounting Clerks, Senior Cost Accountant, and Cost Accountant.
Accountable for the timely completion of assigned duties with considerable requirements for detailed accuracy.
Supervisory involvement on questions of a technical nature.
Effective utilization of all financial and cost information.
Essential Skills and Abilities
Strong information technology skills, including experience with an ERP system, preferably JD Edwards.
Must be an analytical thinker, interpersonally effective, and have a continuous improvement mentality.
Must be able to communicate technical accounting information to managers in a clear and concise manner.
Excellent administrative, organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to work independently and also as a member of a team.
Knowledge of accounting and applicable flow to general ledger of both income statement and balance sheet.
Qualifications:
Key Competencies Required For Success
Prefer accounting designation with 5-7 years of experience including financial accounting, operations costing, fixed asset accounting, mining industry costing, and computerized systems.
Supervisory experience required.
