Location: Australia BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) is the world’s largest seaborne coking coal supplier. BMA operates nine mine sites and a coal loading port in Central Queensland. Owned and operated by BMA, Peak Downs Mine is one of the world’s largest open cut coal operations, producing 9 Mtpa of hard coking coal. Our 800 employees live in nearby Moranbah, a modern well-equipped town 200km west of Mackay and the Whitsunday coast. This particular position is also currently able to commute to and from Brisbane if desired.
Peak Downs is seeking a Senior Drill & Blast Engineer to join our Technical Services Team. This role offers a flexible roster, with the choice of residence in Moranbah or commuting to and from Brisbane. Peak Downs is in the initial stages of implementing new mining methods, which are heavily reliant on best practice Drill and Blast engineering. Providing exciting challenges to both you and your team of dedicated engineers, you will be at the forefront of leading these changes across the mine. This is an excellent career opportunity for an experienced Drill and Blast Engineer.
You will lead a team with the core accountabilities that include:
* Prepare designs, reconciliations and schedules
* Compiling budget inputs for drill & blast activities
* Identify and progress improvement opportunities (safety, cost, production)
* Active involvement with production personnel to continuously improve outcomes
* Design and improve drill and blast planning systems and processes
* Identify strategies to minimise business risk (i.e. maintain overburden prepared)
* Liaise with external consultants to assist with technical problem solving
The successful applicant will have:

A degree in Mining Engineering or associated field and a demonstrated ability with mine design software.

Prior experience in planning or operational exposure to Drill & Blast
*
A strong commitment to safety and the desire to work in an environment of continuous improvement.

A high level of interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationship.
