Location: Australia BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) is the world’s largest seaborne coking coal supplier. BMA operates nine mine sites and a coal loading port in Central Queensland. Owned and operated by BMA, Peak Downs Mine is one of the world’s largest open cut coal operations, producing 9 mtpa of hard coking coal. Our 800 employees live in nearby Moranbah, a modern well-equipped town 200km west of Mackay and the Whitsunday coast.
We are currently seeking a Mid Term Planning Engineer to join the Technical Services team at Peak Downs Mine. Reporting to the Senior Planning Engineer, you will be part of a team responsible for the planning of mining operations from 3 months out to 5 years in advance, and will deal with associated medium term planning matters. You will liaise closely with both the long term and short term planning teams and engage the Production department in the overall planning process.
The Mid Term Planning Engineer will work across the entire value chain from mine design and scheduling to assess potential expansion capability. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate the importance of effective and accurate planning and be involved with projects to support the two year budget and five year planning cycle. A high level of interpersonal skills to interact with operations and maintenance personnel is essential to your success in this position.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Presentation of conceptual designs to key stakeholders for feedback, acceptance and incorporation into mine planning;
* Preparation of pit/dump designs, reserves and infrastructures for the 5-year plan;
* Develop and periodically update the 5-year plan with fully optimized reserves utilisation and equipment performance ;
* Liaising with the short and long term planning teams;
* Involvement in the business excellence process;
* Assisting with the annual operating and capital budgets;
The successful candidate will be required to have:
* A degree in Mining or Civil Engineering or equivalent operational experience;
* Relevant experience in an open cut coal mining operation;
* Experience with Vulcan (or equivalent) design/reserving skills;
* Demonstrated high order interpersonal skills with the ability to influence & inspire;
* Excellent communication skills (both written & verbal) to share concepts and mine plans with others throughout the organization;
* Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills, and
* A high level of computer literacy.
Although not essential, it would be desirable for applicants to have:
* Demonstrated economic evaluation skills;
* Demonstrated supervisory experience and skills;
* Experience with dragline or truck/shovel operations;
* Knowledge of modern drill and blast methods for open cut mines;
* Experience using XPAC or equivalent scheduling software
