BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s mining operations in the spectacular Pilbara region of WA are one of the largest in the world, shipping more than 120Mtpa of iron ore. Our railways, consisting of more than 800km of track, connect our mines in the Pilbara with our shipping facilities in Port Hedland. The heavy haulage rail system, the heaviest in the world, with more than 100 locomotives and around 4,500 carriages, uses state of the art technology across all facets of the operation.
Position Synopsis
A challenging opportunity has arisen within BHP Iron Ore for a motivated individual join our Team at Nelson Point.
We seek a motivated, safety-conscious individual to work within our control room operations where you will actively contribute to the optimisation of production rates and quality targets. You will focus your efforts on the monitoring of process instrumentation, controlling material flows, adjusting operating parameters and will also be required to assist in the training of personnel.
Working in a climate of continuous improvement, your key duties will include but are not limited to;
* Participating in running the plant to its optimum capacity;
* Start up, re-start and shut down of the plant;
* Communicating regularly with rail, maintenance, integrated planning, and operations to maximise tonnage through the supply chain;
* Reporting all faults, safety issues and hazards to authorised personnel;
* Identifying opportunities for control and/or plant improvements and taking an active role in projects to carryout improvements; and
* Through your adherence to specific operating procedures and instructions you will consistently achieve safety, quality and environmental targets.
Skills and Experience
To be considered, you will have a high level of computer literacy, a high attention to detail and an ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a heavy industry production environment. Your logical approach, coupled with effective analytical and problem-solving skills are essential to meeting the challenges presented here. In your efforts to build relationships and influence others, your excellent interpersonal and communication skills will be tested. Experience in control room operations will be seen as an advantage.
