Location: Australia BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) is a highly successful coal mining company and exporter - the biggest in Australia and the largest supplier of seaborne coking coal in the world. We have experienced strong growth and development across our coal mining operations and therefore, we are offering a number of cadetships to people interested in mining technology, computing, science, and different fields of engineering. These Cadetships offer the opportunity to further your career through on-the-job experience and a structured study program work. The Cadetship programs commence in February 2010 in our surface and underground mining operations. Motivated people with a keen interest in a career in mining are encouraged to apply.
BMA Cadetships provide a combination of work experience and training, supported by University study to candidates motivated to develop their skills and abilities in related technical areas. Our cadetship programs are aimed at those who have previously completed, or who are about to complete year 12 schooling; and others with work experience, particularly in mining related areas and/or trades and who want to develop their skills to become qualified in a specific area of coal mining.
Mine Planning Cadets perform a support role to Surveyors, Geologists and Mining Engineers. They work with mine planning engineers during the design of plans for coal mining processes, e.g. drilling and blasting; truck & shovel and dragline operations. Their work includes drafting of plans, the preparation of detailed schedules and statistical reports of planned quantities of mining and rates versus actual production achieved. They assist in the development of annual budgets, the five year and life of mine plans. Their work also includes ensuring compliance in their area of responsibility with BMA Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures as well as compliance with Regulations under the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act and Mine Site Rules.
Mine Planners need to be computer literate and able to use a range of mining software as well as Microsoft software. The work environment includes time in the mine planning office and regular field visits to surface mining operations.
