Description:
To provide financial and control stewardship over the recognition, booking and reporting of revenue relating to BHP Billiton’s Production Division within Petroleum and to ensure the timely delivery, completeness and accuracy of all standardized reports for the Production Division. The scope of this position will include management and oversight over core financial processes related to the reporting of revenue and Opex.
This position reports to Finance Supervisor - Production Accounting.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Demonstrates a working knowledge of relevant sections of sales and purchase agreements
* Demonstrates a working knowledge of accounting policy as it relates to recognition of revenue including product stocks adjustments, Under/Overlift & Deferred Income.
* Calculates & processes more complex sales accrual entries, recognition & amortisation of deferred income, under/overlift, revenue invoicing functions & subsequent trade receivable management.
* Demonstrates a working knowledge of customer credit reviews & terms of trade for AR management, revenue royalty regimes, relevant system expertise, product balancing requirements in order to support regulatory & internal control requirements, and revenue related operating costs.
* Completes quality processes regarding all reconciliations related to Revenue Accounting processes & audits, sound understanding of governance processes to support revenue accounting.
* Collation and preparation of analytical commentary to explain the difference between actual and expected results for monthly P&L & Balance sheet movements
* Interface with Production Team and Marketing to monitor MSAP & PRA transactions to ensure accuracy of revenue reported
* Co-ordinate interfaces with Marketing and Operations to prepare calculation of Deferred Income entries, book entries, prepare analysis as required
* Gather inputs from Marketing, Operations (and where required relevant models) to calculate Underlift/Overlift and Product Stock Adjustment entries, book entries and prepare analysis as required
* Validate Marketing data, monitor transactions and prepare relevant revenue accounting entries, workflow for approval and maintain auditable records for periodic reviews, book accruals and liaise with Operations
* Preparation of Production Division briefing papers
* Prepares work output that is verifiable
* Cooperates actively across functions and divisions, with strong links into customer and external provider networks
* Takes initiative within the team and across team/discipline boundaries to widen personal network
Experience & Qualifications Required
* Bachelor’s degree in Business with a strong accounting representation
* Master’s degree in Business/Finance strongly preferred
* CPA preferred but not required
* Three to eight years of professional experience preferably in upstream O&G
* Superior interpersonal skills to handle various customer and stakeholder groups
* Has an awareness of conveying information at the appropriate level for the audience
