As an integral member of the HSEC&S Department, this role is responsible for providing the framework for the delivery of Occupational Health & Hygiene excellence at all relevant BHP Billiton’s sites and ensuring the company is appropriately positioned to deliver on excellence in health, safety, environment and sustainable development.
Reporting to the Vice President HSEC your accountabilities will include:
• Ensuring BHP Billiton is appropriately positioned with respect to occupational health such that risks are mitigated and opportunities captured.
• Maintain Group Level Documents
• Design Corporate HSEC audit programme with VP HSEC Governance & Assurance and participate in Corporate HSEC audits
• Participate in design of community development strategy
• Lead best practice in occupational health performance across the group
• Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting obligations (in association with VP Governance)
• Maintain awareness of external issues and agendas that may impact on BHPB/s licence to operate
• Develop and maintain effective networks with key external stakeholders (industry bodies, govt, regulatory bodies, NGOs) to support the company’s position on key issues
• Provide expert strategic advice to management in response to major incidents/issues with the potential impact on BHP Billiton’s global reputation
• Ensure development and succession plans are in place for direct reports
• Effectively manage Department budget
An appropriate tertiary qualification is essential and relevant post-graduate qualifications advantageous. Critical to your success is extensive knowledge of: occupational health management systems, performance measures, global environmental and community relations practices and emerging issues. Experience working in multiple countries, cultures, and regulatory regimes is highly desirable.
