Coeur Alaska is recruiting a Senior Avalanche Forecaster and a Avalanche Forecaster for the 2009-2010 winter seasons at the Kensington Gold Mine, presently under construction, located 45 miles north of Juneau, Alaska.
Essential Functions:
> Forecast and communicate avalanche conditions to mine personnel.
> Test snow conditions to determine appropriate course of action.
> Provide avalanche training to employees; maintain the personal protective and avalanche equipment.
> Responsible for collecting field data, weather, and daily avalanche forecasts.
> Ensure adherence to safety and environmental standards.
Experience/Education: 5-10 years experience as a professional avalanche forecaster, and a degree in meteorology, geography, geology, and hydrology preferred. Experience working in backcountry conditions and must routinely travel on skis. Advanced knowledge of mountain weather forecasting and handling explosives (must pass an ATFE background clearance from Homeland Security). Candidates must demonstrate leadership and problem solving skills; effective verbal and written communications skills are required for this position. The ability to work independently and maintain positive relationships with all levels of Company employees is essential.
This position is required to work a 4 day on 3 day off schedule and will be located at a remote camp 45 miles north of Juneau, Alaska. We offer a competitive wage and benefits package.
