ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER

Southern Seawater Alliance (SSWA)

The SSWA is formed by the Water Corporation and the joint venture of Tecnicas Reunidas Australia, Valoriza Water Australia, AJ Lucas Operations and Worley Parsons Services. Once constructed, the Southern Seawater Desalination Plant will produce around 50 gigalitres of drinking water per year, with the potential to increase to 100 gigalitres.

Construction work has commenced, and the new plant will begin operation in 2011.

This position is based on the Southern Seawater Desalination Plant site at Binningup.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Sustainability Manager, the person in this role provides environmental services and advice to supervision and management on the application of policy on site. Responsible for developing and evaluating appropriate solutions to issues as they arise. Ensures that environmental policies and systems are implemented. Monitoring and reporting on test work, application of standard procedures to test work and incident investigation on the following aspects during the construction activities of the Desalination Plant:

- Acid Sulphate Soils

- Dewatering

- Revegetation and landscaping

- Fire prevention

- Hygiene prevention

- Fauna management

- Marine Habitat monitoring

- Waste management

Experience

A degree in environmental science or environmental engineering and around five years of professional experience.

Previous experience in environmental supervision of construction activities is essential. This will include liaison with subcontractors through environmental inductions, ensuring that activities and construction works are conducted in accordance with environmental conditions and commitments.

Previous experience in the implementation of Environmental Management Systems will be highly appreciated.
