POSITION SYNOPSIS
BHP Billiton (Marketing) requires a proactive and results driven Coordinator Distribution for the Carbon Steel Material group. Reporting to the Manager Distribution for Carbon Steel Materials Marketing in Singapore, your key responsibilities will include:
• Accountable for all distribution activities within South Africa, e.g. planning and execution of transporting Manganese from asset to customer;
• Ensure continued performance through analyses and reporting of the main key performance indicators;
• Identify and scope key value add opportunities across the current Carbon Steel Material supply chain,
• Assist the Manager Distribution in the negotiation and conclusion of contracts with logistic service providers;
• Manage and develop the distribution department and its staff within Carbon Steel Materials in South Africa;
• Ensure adherence of all distribution activities to external and internal rules, regulations and policy;
• Be a member of the negotiation team in preparation and negotiation of a long term rail contracts;
• Monitor and report on competitor material movements and/or other relevant market information;
• Providing support and input to the Business Development team in capital expansion projects if needed;
• Provide all relevant information for budget, performance review and management reporting purposes;
• Manage any possible claims relating to transportation and/or material handling with the aim to reach satisfying settlement for all parties and liaising with insurers where applicable;
• Maintain and enhance BHP Billiton’s reputation as a reliable and reputable supplier.

In addition to the above responsibilities, you will demonstrate your added value to the business by working closely with the mines, marketing and the business development teams in South Africa to ensure maximum value in achieved through BHP Billiton’s logistical infrastructure.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Ideally, you will be degree qualified (preferably Masters) in a technical or commercial field with extensive experience in a logistics or bulk materials industry. You have good leadership skills and ability to create a culture of accountability. Highly driven and fostering a sense of urgency from yourself and your team you strive to excel in every activity and achieve results. You are focused on developing your team, motivate and coach them to enhance their sense of ownership of their area of responsibility.
You are action oriented, prioritize activities that have the greatest impact on the business and can demonstrate comfort around managing multiple projects. Your natural style will lean towards a combination of results orientation and analytical capabilities. Coupled with this you will not be shy of challenging the status quo. You continuously want to learn and grow professionally as a leader. Experience with SAP will be an advantage.
