We are currently looking for an Indigenous candidate who is a Trade qualified Fitter with relative heavy industry experience.
Position Synopsis
We invite applications from highly self-motivated and team-spirited individuals for the position of Mechanical Fitter within the Railroad Department’s Locomotive Service Shop. You will be required to undertake shift work, and demonstrate a willingness to work additional hours when required in order to achieve business objectives.
Operating in a climate of continuous improvement, you will facilitate the diagnosing and repair of mechanical faults. Your focus will be on achieving the highest attainable availability of all locomotives and compressor cars to allow the railroad to operate at optimum levels.
Accepting ownership of your tasks, you will apply your high level of technical skill and expertise in carrying out the following responsibilities:
* Undertaking fault finding, repair and maintenance work on locomotives;
* Inspecting and brake testing trains;
* Utilising computer based maintenance systems;
* Servicing, and shunting locomotives;
* Maintaining the associated infrastructure.
Skills & Experience
To be considered, it is essential that you have a mechanical trade qualification, with post trade experience, preferably in the maintenance of railroad rolling stock, or similar heavy industry along with heavy earth moving experience. An "A" class driver’s licence and proficiency with computers are also necessary. Committed to continuously achieving the required maintenance standards, you will display excellent fault finding skills and a sound working knowledge of Quality Assurance principals.
Your effective communication skills will be applied to facilitating shift changeovers, and providing advice and support to fellow technicians and apprentices. Your technical strengths will be complemented by good interpersonal skills, effective written and oral communication capabilities, and a proven ability to operate with limited supervision. Training on locomotives will be provided as required.
Serious contenders must be able to demonstrate their commitment to taking personal responsibility for the achievement of the production plan in an Injury/ Incident free environment.

This is a residential role, based in Port Hedland in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
