Senior Contracts Officer
BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) is Australia's largest coal miner and exporter, and the world's largest supplier to the seaborne coking coal market. The company is experiencing a major expansion phase, with its outstanding resource base and first class infrastructure assets providing a strong foundation on which to grow and strengthen the business.
BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance has a vacancy in its Supply Services team based in Mackay for a Senior Procurement/Purchasing specialist. The team provides a full range of supply services, principally to the coal mines in Central Queensland. Services include commodity management, procurement, inventory management and contracting.
Reporting to the Surface and Underground Mining Manager, the purpose of this role is to achieve maximum value for BHP Billiton through commercial procurement activities such as negotiation, implementation and commercial management of contracts and service agreements for the development, maintenance and on site service contract requirements for mines, ports and townships.
Role Accountabilities include:
• Comply with all aspects of BHP Billiton, BMA and departmental policies and values including the BHP Billiton Code of Conduct;
• Take responsibility for negotiation, implementation and commercial management of more complex contract requirements;
• Provide training to site personnel in contracting policies, practices and systems and in specification writing;
• Maintain current knowledge of markets for contracted services including changes in the method of delivery, capacities and capabilities of contractors and industry cost structures;
• In consultation with customers of contracted services, develop strategies that reduce the total cost of the supply chain through use of the most appropriate commercial arrangements and the implementation of best contracting practice;
• Monitor overall performance of contractors including OHS&E, to ensure contract objectives are met;
• Support customers in their administration of operational aspects of contractors and day to day activities of contractors;
• Ensure contractual documentation is unambiguous, conducive to obtaining best value for money and complies with BHPB policy and the law;
• Maintain liaison with site personnel, especially contract advisors, maintenance managers and contractors;
• Share information with Sites and Strategic Sourcing in the monitoring and performance reporting of contracts;
• Mentor Contracts Officers and more junior members of the team;
Role Competencies:
• Tertiary qualified in business/law/commerce/Engineering or related degree and Supply competence experience gained from 3 to 5 years on the job;
• Experience in the development, negotiation and implementation of contracts from $1 million to 5 million
• Thorough understanding and demonstrated application of contracting services to the resources industry;
• Literate in the use of procurement systems e.g. SAP;
• Literate in the use of Microsoft Office business programs;
• Excellent interpersonal skills;
