GEMCO is the largest seaborne Manganese Operation in the world and has a clear vision to be the best manganese operation in the world. Its strategic drivers include Zero Harm, People, Community, Reliable Operations, Business Improvement and Growth as the key pillars to deliver the Vision in line with the Manganese CSG Strategies. To support this Vision and the strategies, the Asset is seeking an outstanding individual for the position of Maintenance Manager; to lead the maintenance teams to ensure safety culture is embedded, while ensuring there is cost-effective execution of the Asset Capability Assurance process through clearly defined strategies, and objectives for maintenance of plant, equipment & facilities.
Reporting to the General Manager, this pivotal role takes on accountability for the overall Maintenance Strategy, developing frameworks and policies plus providing specialist and strategic advice to the Asset leadership team on Groote Eylandt, Northern Territory, Australia. This position provides the key links between Operations, Maintenance, Maintenance Engineering on a medium to long term basis so that production is optimised and plans can be achieved.
The successful candidate will have significant relevant experience within a mining environment with leadership of a maintenance teams. Individuals with an operations background seeking to expand their maintenance exposure through this role will also be considered. With accountabilities in these functional areas, a demonstrated ability to lead health, safety, production and environmental performance in the business in a complex environment is also expected. In addition to the leadership of a professional multi-disciplinary team, including engineers and trade technicians, the successful applicant will also be accountable for:
* Ongoing compliance with BHP Billiton HSECQ standards, specifically Fatal Risk Control Protocols and standards and Health & Safety Management Standards.
* Overseeing the continued implementation of maintenance systems and strategies to maximise productivity whilst ensuring the Assets are fit for their life of duty.
* Liaison with the Asset management team and the Manganese Maintenance group
* Delivery of maintenance strategies and cost targets through effective and responsible allocation of production and maintenance resources. Drive new initiatives that identify opportunities for optimising maintenance plant reliability and availability
* Ensure that the Maintenance functions are scheduled in a timely, orderly and cost effective manner whilst optimising the long-term viability of the GEMCO ore resource.
* Driving the 1Sap initiatives for the Asset to align with the Manganese CSG
The successful applicant will possess:
* Capability to lead, engage and influence people at all levels of the business.
* Preferably degree qualified in maintenance management / engineering or related discipline.
* Strong experience leading operational and/or maintenance teams within ore processing and/or material handling operations.
* High motivation and experience in setting and monitoring goals, establishing operational and maintenance strategies and priorities for change and communicating company objectives.
* A proven record in cost control and budget management.
This is a hands-on leadership role, forming an integral part of the succession plan for the business, working with an energetic team to deliver best practice performance. Excellent written and verbal communication skills coupled with leadership, influencing, problem solving and organisation skills will be essential for success in this role. This role will be residential on Groote Eylandt aligned to other key management roles for GEMCO.
