BASIC PURPOSE
The position will provide leadership in the discipline and technology of Seismic Inversion, an essential tool in making best use of seismic and associated well data in which the technology is developing fast with extensions of the technique to multiple offsets (obtaining estimates of multiple rock properties) and stochastic methods (obtaining realistic ranges of rock properties values).
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Leadership in the use of Inversion technology to enhance value of seismic data in BHP Billiton Petroleum.
Project management of work efforts to achieve appropriate balance of quality, time, and cost given the business objectives of the project.
Ensure that BHP Billiton Petroleum accesses and utilizes Best-in-Class tools and techniques for seismic inversion.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Advise appropriately on the use of various Inversions technologies on BHP data.
* Ensure that Inversion techniques are fully integrated with other QI and broader GTT and business workflows as necessary.
* Assist in the evaluation of existing BHP inversion software and the selection of inversion software to improve capabilities.
* Run Inversions on seismic data in house, including the use of BHP “proprietary” software (Delivery and LIW) using Unix scripts.
* Manage vendor projects producing inversion products.
* Undertake and manage or assist with other Quantitative Interpretation work as required.
* Knowledge-sharing/mentoring in Inversion Technology and Quantitative Interpretation with QI Team Members and the larger BHP Geoscience community
* Develop and maintain networks and relationships with key persons, research bodies, professional associates, vendors etc in areas of Inversion and QI technology
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
* Master’s or higher degree in Geophysics or related a field
* Highly knowledgeable in the theory and practice, advantages and pitfalls, of various types on seismic inversion including deterministic and stochastic, single- and multi-offset
* Hands-on experience with a variety of inversion software
* Significant specialist knowledge and expertise with Rock Physics and Quantitative Interpretation Techniques
* Familiar with seismic acquisition, processing and interpretation, especially Interpretative Processing.
* Good communicator and team player
* Project management skills
* Understanding of E&P business
* Fluent English language
