ROLE PROFILE
The Finance Analyst Materials & Logistics provides finance advice to the Materials & Logistics and Supply team. The Finance analyst supports the Finance Manager Developments - Drilling & S&L who functions as the senior finance professional for BHPB’s worldwide drilling activity and the global Supply and Logistics team. This individual will work with the Worldwide Drilling, Supply and Logistics teams with the primary focus being the Materials & Logistics group providing finance support in the areas of managerial accounting, decision support, risk management, accounting process design and identification of any finance issues. The incumbent will coordinate with the controller’s group, production units and project teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting or materials & logistics spend, commitments & valuation.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Ensure appropriate cost allocations related to the logistics, shorebase, and warehouse activities and other Supply functions and ensure they are structured to optimize JVOA and Tax recoveries
* Work with S&L to ensure inventory is properly tracked and managed, properly classified and captured in the books, book value is reflective of market values and that BHPB is in compliance with all JV requirements. This will include working with the Manager of Drilling and Supply and Logistics regarding the implementation of a system to track and manage inventory, ensuring regular physical inventories, the coordination of timely and value adding disposal, and compliance with the inventory write-off policy
* Provide audit support on audits associated with the various shore bases, warehouses, and logistics activities. Collaborate with the drilling finance team, PU finance managers, and project finance managers to manage audits of drilling inventory, project inventory, and production related inventory is conducted regularly. Includes periodically participating in physical inventories.
* Ensure classification of inventory is consistent with Group Accounting Policy and applied globally. Requires regular interaction with Petroleum Finance Fixed Assets Team to review inventory balances and the detailed items included in those balances.
* Ensure implementation of Governance Framework including Approvals Framework, CART, CAR, and Supply policies and procedures. Work with Supply function to ensure that procurement processes are integrated & in compliance with finance processes and finance responsibilities (Approvals Framework, tollgates, CART, Contracts and Commitments policy)
* Collaborate with PU, Exploration, Drilling and Project Finance managers to ensure robust tracking and reporting of commitments and contingencies
* Maintains and update G&A budgets including employee and contractor headcounts for Materials & Logistics teams, Shorebases & Warehousing activities.
* Prepare financial metrics related to the Shorebase for presentation at quarterly vendor reviews.
* Manage the process for recovery of costs from parties who share BHP’s facilities, in accordance with cost sharing agreements.
* Participate in the procure to pay process to assure timely and accurate reflection of costs, master data setups, and proper use of codes
* Ensure all operations are conducted with proper financial controls and in accordance with BHPB’s business ethics, charter and all regulatory requirements
* Ad hoc duties as needed

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
* Possess an undergraduate degree in finance or accounting.
* An MBA, including course work in finance, is preferred.
* 6-9 years experience in financial analysis, financial performance management, and financial strategy. In addition, experience in inventory management; supply; information systems; and value analysis would be ideal.
* Solid base in financial and managerial accounting gained from experience in public accounting or corporate financial reporting or controller roles.
* Previous experience in an exploration and production company
* The ability to manage and synthesize large amounts of information to evaluate a project, including internal and external factors.
* Superior negotiation and influencing skills.
* Exceptional interpersonal skills, a collaborative style, and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels with internal and external personnel.
* A self-starter who works well without direct or close supervision.
* Customer focus and the flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements.
* Good problem-solving skills (strong analysis, judgment, and decision-making skills with attention to detail) along with the ability to identify and recommend process improvements.
* Exposure to Materials, Logistics and Supply activities (desirable)
* Advanced level of Microsoft Office products and SAP competency is essential
* Experience in the Petroleum Industry and Joint Venture accounting activities
* Completion of post graduate professional accounting accreditation (CPA/CA)
* Fluent English reading, writing and speaking skills.
