Reporting to the Senior Tax Manager, North America, you will work with a high quality team applying your professional approach to the following key responsibilities:
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Communicating in clear business friendly terms you will provide targeted, value adding advice to operating businesses. You will proactively seek opportunities to improve tax and business outcomes by being close to the operations and actively participating in business initiatives.
• You will actively contribute to planning and optimization initiatives using federal, state and international tax skills and experience.
• You will review US federal and state income tax returns, including reporting of international operations providing assurance that returns are properly completed, tax positions are optimized and documentation is appropriate and sufficient to support return positions.
• You will review BHP Billiton’s tax accounting position to ensure proper financial statement presentation of current and deferred tax and related notes.
• Providing clear and accurate information, you will assist with tax audits including research, preparation of audit responses and providing input to audit and defence strategies.
• Assisting in various tax operations projects you will identify and advance various process improvements including data and knowledge management and maintenance of various registers for risks, project management, etc.
• You will facilitate and efficiently prepare current and long range tax forecasts, including coordination with business groups to obtain forecast data. You will proactively use data to identify opportunities. You will also prepare and review quarterly consolidated estimated tax and extension payments using forecast data.
• You will enthusiastically work on special projects and as necessary, perform other related duties of which the above are representative
QUALIFICATIONS
• Extensive practical experience in U.S. and international tax with transactional and planning project skills and knowledge of compliance and accounting requirements. Canadian experience is also a plus.
• Thorough knowledge of U.S. corporate tax rules including but not limited to foreign tax credits, source of income, expense allocation and apportionment and related U.S. reporting requirements. Resource industry (oil & gas and mining) tax experience is a strong plus

• Excellent organization & time management skills and attention to detail.
• Highly proficient domestic and international tax research skills.
• Ability to multi-task and take ownership of accountabilities in a fast paced work environment.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability and desire to effectively thrive in a team environment. Enthusiasm for your work and proactive approach is sought.
• BS/BA in finance or accounting. CPA certification or JD degree preferred.
