General Foreman - Engineering Services

Barrick Africa is currently searching for an experienced General Foreman – Engineering Services. This position is required to provide leadership to the Maintenance Engineering Team during operations. This position reports to the Maintenance Superintendent.

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities:

o Provide leadership to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that exceed worldwide industry practice and any applicable legislative requirements.

o Demonstrate initiative by being able to take full responsibility for maintenance, quality of the maintenance and construction activities related to the outside services of a gold mine, i.e.

o Building maintenance o Potable water treatment plant o Sewage treatment plant o Water pumping o Services workshop with light fabrication capacity o Implementation of Best Practices in the maintenance field including RCA.

o Maintain equipment availability and reliability by assisting in minimizing equipment breakdowns and/or unplanned work and maintaining parts on hand o Compliance with safety standards and requisite legal and statutory inspections o Ensure that a high standard of quality workmanship is maintained o To provide leadership to his direct reports and ensure timely, efficient and safe completion of all tasks.

o Implement employee performance processes to ensure optimum employee performance and take appropriate action to remedy any substandard employee performance or behaviour.

o Assist in the training and upgrading of a large National workforce through succession planning.

o Assist planners and schedulers to crate work orders and schedule equipment for follow up repairs, if required.

o Other tasks as assigned by the Engineering Management o Manage Succession Planning within the Engineering Team to ensure that Barrick achieves development of Tanzanian employees to assume positions of increasing accountability.

o Provide ongoing training, mentoring and employee performance management, to develop and maintain a safe, competent and results orientated Maintenance Team.

o Ensure that works are performed to the approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Field Level Risk Assessments are undertaken prior to the commencement of the works.

Qualifications & Experience:

Qualification:

• Recognized apprenticeship in a Mechanical discipline

Experience:

o At least 10 years post apprenticeship experience in the industrial sector of which at least 5 years has been in a supervisory position.

o Current driving license o Experience in systematic coaching and training of employees in developing country is essential: Awareness and sensitivity of alternative cultures and behaviour: Demonstrated Supervision and Leadership Skills o Must have excellent written and spoken communication skills in the English language o Prior expatriate experience would be advantageous
