Location: Australia Barrick Gold Corporation is the world’s largest gold mining company. Headquartered in Toronto, Canada – Barrick currently has a portfolio of 27 mining operations, many advanced exploration projects located across five continents and large land positions on the world’s most prolific and prospective mineral trends. Barrick’s Australia Pacific Region is home to 9 of the company’s mining operations, with its Regional Head Office located in Perth, Western Australia.
The Position:
The Principal Mining Engineer will be included as an integral member of small yet dynamic Perth based Technical Services Group and will be responsible for providing support in the area of open pit mine planning.
The position reports to the Group Mining Engineer and is Perth based, however it is expected that frequent travel to both the Australian and PNG sites will be required.
Duties will include:
• Providing technical support to the 9 operating mines in the Australia Pacific Region
• The planning and management of development projects – with an operational (mine) improvement focus
• Preparing preliminary designs and detailed designs – focus on mine optimisation
• Providing technical support to the Technical Services Group
• Auditing, improvement and monitoring of planning systems
• Capital projects review and analysis
• Budgeting and forecasting
• Project work as required
The Person:
• Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering
• A minimum of 10 years experience in the mining industry (open cut)
• Extensive experience in open pit mine planning, scheduling, mine design and optimisation.
• Strong communication and presentation skills (both oral and written)
• Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
• Advanced Computer skills in mine planning software (Vulcan, Whittle, Surpac and Datamine), word processing and use of spreadsheets are essential.
