Position Overview:
Operating on a 16 days on, 12 days off roster commuting from Cairns, you will work as part of a highly trained, multicultural team on this exciting international project. The Porgera Joint Venture is based in the Highlands of Enga Province in Papua New Guinea and offers a unique and challenging work environment. At an elevation in excess of 2100 meters and surrounded by limestone buttes the Porgera Valley has a temperate climate all year round with an annual rainfall in excess of 3.6 meters.
The opportunity exists for you to relocate to Cairns and enjoy a relaxed lifestyle in a modern and dynamic city offering excellent educational facilities up to university level. Alternatively and subject to conditions, the company will subsidise on-travel airfares paid to commute to and from Cairns for each work roster.
MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT - UNDERGROUND MOBILE
The position
Reporting to the Mobile Plant Manager, this role will be responsible for maintaining the underground mobile mining equipment and fixed underground mechanical equipment in a safe and efficient manner for the Maintenance Department, by the application and monitoring of maintenance systems.
This role will include implementation and support site-wide and corporate systems to ensure underground mobile and mechanical equipment is serviced according to schedule and meet agreed service delivery levels. You will also be responsible for the monitoring of maintenance systems and performance measures, formulate alternatives and improvements to systems and methods including maintaining equipment to a safe and efficient standard in accordance with company policy.
The person
You must be familiar with underground mobile mining equipment and have trade qualifications in Heavy Equipment Fitting or relevant mechanical trade. Post trade qualifications such as maintenance planning or reliability engineering; or recognised qualifications in Mechanical Engineering is desirable.
Several years experience working at Senior Trades Level within a large underground mine is essential for this role, as are well developed communication skills and the ability to liaise at all levels. Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated maintenance management systems is also a requirement of this role.
You will also be responsible to oversee the provision of training and coaching of National employees as part of the company’s Training and Localisation Plan. You will also have a high level of understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in PNG.
This challenging role requires you to engage with all people associated with the PJV Operations and to understand, learn from and share cultural differences. It is essential that you have the capability and desire to transfer skills and knowledge to a national workforce.
