Position Overview:
Barrick is fast becoming one of the largest operators in PNG following acquisition of further tenement leases in the central PNG area of Kainantu and a recently announced exploration Joint Venture in central New Britain. A unique and golden opportunity now exists for an experienced Drilling Supervisor to join our quickly growing team in PNG.
Duties & Responsibilities include:
Within this role you will be standardising drilling practices, equipment and record keeping for Exploration within the region. You will also provide drilling services assistance to Exploration Geological managers for development and execution of drill programmes.
More specifically, you will be responsible for setting up an effective daily reporting system for each drill rig on every project in the region, collect and review daily reports from each active drill rig and project, identify and monitor trouble shooting requirements and liaise with other senior Drilling Supervisors.
It is expected you will spend some of your time at various Exploration locations throughout PNG. Accommodation will range from mine sites, hotel/ motel to more remote type camp set ups. Frequent helicopter travel is a requirement of this position.
Experience & Requirements:
You must be familiar with and have a clear understanding of each drilling services contract and be proficient in assisting the Geologists and Project Managers to set up new drill contract tendering process by collaborating on the Scope of Work definitions and qualified drill contractor selection.
• Contract drilling experience and/or drill contractor management experience is preferable
• Moderate level of skill and ability to utilise Microsoft Word and Excel for writing reports and tracking drilling data
• A team orientated player with strong leadership skills and demonstrated commitments to contract drilling best practices, safety and the environment
• Ability and willingness to work with personnel from diverse cultures is essential
