Site Service Superintendent

Position Overview:

The Site Services Superintendent is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the site services within the minesite facility. The scope of work includes the management of the following activities:
• Oversight and maintenance of electrical distribution within the mine, including the high voltage station, substation and coordination with the power plant.
• Operation and maintenance of the fresh water supply systems.
• Operation and maintenance of the potable water treatment and distribution systems.
• Maintenance of the fire protection water system across the site.
• Operation and maintenance of the Incinerator.
• Coordinates site hazardous waste storage and removal including waste oil with Environment.
• Operation and maintenance of the sewage treatment plant.
• Oversees maintenance of the reserve grounds including fences, reserve area.
• Maintenance of light vehicle access roads.
• General facility and buildings maintenance for all site structures including camp, shop areas.
• G&A, environment light vehicles maintenance including warehouse mobile equipment maintenance.
• Assis in projects for the support of community and environmental infrastructure improvements.


Duties and Responsibilities – Pre operational phase
• In partnership with mechanical, electrical planning and reliability personnel develop and refine the maintenance strategies and programs.
• In collaboration with the power plant and the minesite personnel, establish the strategy, tactics and communications protocols for the supply of electrical power within the minesite.
• In collaboration with the safety department, perform a risk assessment of the site services operations and maintenance activities with the goal of determining the critical tasks and workplaces. This will be the foundation for the creation of the standard maintenance procedures and the schedule of task observations and workplace inspections.
• In collaboration with the other personnel of the minesite, establish the safety and workplace standards that will pertain to his area of responsability. Develop and write these standards and procedures.
• Assist in defining the training requirements and establishing a comprehensive Training Needs Analysis matrix for national personnel.
• Interact with the HR personnel to identify, recruit and develop the site services team.
• Identify, purchase and manage the specialized safety PPE, work and power tools, maintenance equipment and the distribution of hand tools to the personnel.
• Ensure suitable care and maintenance programs are put in place by EPCM contractors to maintain the equipment before turnover. Develop and apply care and maintenance programs for the equipment turned over to PVDC before startup.
• Develop a commissioning strategy. The incumbent will be part of the pre-ops and startup team.
• In collaboration with the commissioning manager, other area personnel and engineering, coordinate commissioning activities.
• Report progress of commissioning activities and progression, safety and environmental obligations.
Duties and Responsibilities - Operations
• Promote a safe, efficient and effective work culture focused on continuous improvement and achievement.
• Lead and implement the safety and training programs, including (but not limited to) the development of the Risk management, Standard Operating Procedures, (SOP’s), Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMP’s), Workplace Inspections, Task Observations and Training programs.
• Manage and coordinate the electrical distribution maintenance activities within the process plant to meet business objectives.
• As the responsible officer for minesite electrical distribution, ensure equipment and infrastructure are maintained and operated in accordance with the required standards.
• Ensure team members are focused on and comply with the site safety standards.
• In collaboration with mechanical, operations, reliability and planning groups develop and maintain short and medium term plans.
• Conduct performance evaluations of section supervisors.
• Monitor and control site services department operating and maintenance costs, and actively contribute to annual budget preparation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Minesite Electrical Supervisor, Site Services Safety and Training Officer, Service Crew Supervisor, Camp Supervisor.

Education

Completion of a certified program of competence in Electrical/Instrumentation as a journeyman or technician complemented by leadership and supervisory training. Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering are highly regarded.

Experience

10+ years of experience in the management of electrical and site services in a mining, metallurgical or petro chemical plant with 7+ years as a supervisor.

Skills & Abilities

• Demonstrated skills and ability leading and managing a multicultural operations and maintenance team in a complex operation.
• Demonstrated skills and ability in operating and maintaining complex infrastructure services including camp, incinerators, sewage plants, potable water systems and electrical systems.
• Can effectively deal with and support a multitude of clients and departments.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft products and CMMS systems.
• Experienced in developing and managing safety and training programs.
• Above average communication skills, able to speak, read, and write in English.
Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred.
