Job descriptionBasic Function:
Provides specialist technical advice and engineering solution to Technical Services Department in field of cathodic protection engineering.
Work Performed:
1.Conducts routine cathodic protection survey including potential, current, soil resistivity measurement and maintenance jobs for existing cathodic protection installations utilizing impressed current and sacrificial anode system for metallic and concrete structure.
2.Investigates and carries out trouble shooting of cathodic protection related problems for pipelines, tank farm, jetties, concrete structures, heat exchangers including interference, stray current problems etc.
3.Carries out regular cathodic protection system monitoring and calibrations and evaluate cathodic protection performance. Prepares regular report highlighting area of concern and suggest corrective action.
4.Reviews cathodic protection design, highlight problems and suggest improvement for existing and new projects including scope of work and finalizes bid documents for new cathodic protection projects.
5.Familiarises with operating and trouble shooting of remote monitoring system, retrieving data and carrying out required analysis. Reviews cathodic protection materials for new projects and modification and ensures implementation of QA/QC.
6.Maintains stock of the spares required for cathodic protection including anodes, cables, electronic cards, reference cells etc.
7.Ensures optimum efficiency of cathodic protection system in order to avoid structure corrosion. Recommends up-grading and revamp work of cathodic protection system whenever it is necessary.
8.Supervises cathodic protection isolation, connection and ensures fire and safety regulations are followed.
9.Plans and coordinates all cathodic protection monitoring, maintenance jobs and coordinates with Maintenance and Operation all cathodic protection related activities.
10.Updates Inspection Management System records and procedures related to CP system
11.Reviews cathodic protection procedures and up-grades the same as required.
12.Creates awareness to all internal standard and protection criteria for metallic and concrete structures.
Work Contacts:
Internally:
FrequentContacts with other personnel in the section as well as Operation and Maintenance personnel upto Section Head level for analyzing, discussing and arranging inspection, obtaining work permits, etc.
Externally:
Occasional contacts with contract personnel while carrying out CP tests.
Independance of Operation:
Reports to Sr. Corrosion Engineer. Performs assigned tasks in accordance with established policies, work procedures and technical standards. Work accomplishments are subject to frequent review.
RequirementsMinimum Requirements:
1.B.E / B. Tech degree in Electrical Engineering or NACE CP specialist.
2. Minimum 5 years experience in operation and maintenance of Cathodic Protection System in a petroleum /chemical plant.
3. Good knowledge of English.
