Summary Description of Duties:
Mill Maintenance Foreman
Purpose of Role
To provide complex technical support to the mill maintenance function. To follow established policies, practices and procedures when completing work assignments. To provide work direction to the mill maintenance team. To ensure continued growth of the team and to maximize operational efficiencies and profitability.
Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties
1. To administer a system, program or process in mill maintenance
Responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of all activities related to mill maintenance
Answers queries and handles requests related to mill maintenance which includes problem solving and judgment
Complies with established methodologies and quality standards related to mill maintenance while at the same time recommending new or alternate approaches
Escalates issues requiring knowledge about the broader business impact of decisions. Works with mentor as needed
Prepares reports and completes documentation related to mill maintenance
Assists with special projects related to mill maintenance
Oversees all non-destructive testing on site and testing done by contractors
Ensures that proper mill maintenance schedules are designed and implemented to ensure proper mill maintenance of company assets
Coordinates multiple technology condition monitoring and corrective actions
Directs and manages the company oil analysis program and its associated software
Fills in for technicians during their absence
Writes and maintains quality control procedures for rebuild and / or purchase
Maintains written documentation needed for regulatory requirements and company policies
Acts as a change agent and project sponsor for key initiatives; models organizational values, sets the cultural tone, and prioritizes business goals
Collaborates with senior management to identify and analyze business requirements and the implications for the function; identifies gaps and implements agreed upon solutions
Provides analysis of work outcomes with guidance from immediate supervisor and / or a mentor
May mentor or train less experienced employees on operating standards, procedures and methods
Other duties as required
2. To provide technical support and customer service related to mill maintenance
Addresses queries and resolves issues for internal customers while ensuring service standards are met
Ensures internal customers comply with company policy and procedures and regulations in mill maintenance
Provides training to internal customers as needed
Prepares communication materials, manuals and other written materials related to mill maintenance
3. To provide work direction to the mill maintenance team
Directs the activities of a team including defining and delegating work assignments
Acts as a communication linchpin with the team and models the organization’s values
Contributes to the development and revision of policies and procedures for the mill maintenance team
Identifies key performance measures for the function; monitors and reports on the achievement of targets and revises strategies as needed
Sets performance targets and measures, monitors, and manages overall performance of the team and direct reports
Supervises technicians, lead hands and crew supervisors
Builds the capabilities of the team to enhance their ability to achieve financial and operating strategies; hires appropriately, leverages the talents of the team, and takes corrective action where necessary
Supervises road maintenance, water haul, reclamation, and mobile maintenance personnel
Performs duties of Planner in his absence
Performs minor design work on equipment and systems modifications
Supervises on-site contractors
Qualifications:
KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR SUCCESS
College or technical training equivalent to 2 years of study
Completion of formal professional certification or designation in appropriate area of expertise
8 – 10 years of related work experience
Complete knowledge of the principles within a technical area or discipline
Previous supervisory experience In-depth understanding of Kinross’ processes a definite asset
Previous experience in the mining industry is preferred
